Default Nadya Suleman (OctoMom) On Oprah, With Suze Orman Jan 2011

Anyone else watch this this afternoon?

I don't like Suzy Orman, she's a bitch. Her advice sucked too. It was like a gang up session, just another chance to make some money off this obviously mentally unstable woman.

Here is a blog from a lady in the audience, it was aired today but was filmed back in Nov.

Octomom on Oprah: I Was There and It Was Ugly | Babble Chicago

Nadya Suleman appears on The Oprah Winfrey Show today. The interview was actually taped back in November. I know this because I was in the studio audience. The concept was that financial guru Suze Orman was brought in as an “intervention” over Suleman’s dire monetary circumstances. If you think Orman is scary on television, you should sit a few feet away from her. Scary indeed. Even The Opes admitted she was scared of her — and Opes ain’t scared of nobody. Except maybe that curly-haired trainer guy who pesters her to get on the treadmill. Anyway, the whole ordeal was actually terribly sad. Orman was brutally harsh to Suleman. I left the studio with the feeling that Orman was there to give Suleman a public shellacking on behalf of America rather than trying to assist 14 helpless children in a potentially dangerous situation.
And yes, I’m going to defend Octomom. Sort of. Because it was clear the woman is mentally unstable.

Orman repeatedly yelled at her, called her a liar (which she clearly is) and at one point demanded she stand up and admit to the world having her octuplets was a mistake. No mother wants to declare on camera that her children are a mistake — the poor kids could see that one day.
So imagine being mentally ill, and you have a fertility specialist — a medical doctor! — not only listening to your wackadoodle ideas of having a million children, but he goes along with it, validating your desire for an absurd amount of children you have no way of supporting.
Suze Orman tells us during the show that she believes God doesn’t put more on your plate then you can handle. Well, I don’t think God can be held responsible for this one. But someone who likes to think he’s God can. The unethical fertility doctor. And his name is Dr. Michael Kamrava and he should be supporting those 14 children he helped create.
Let me say here that my contempt for Dr. Kamrava comes from a place of having my own issues getting pregnant. I underwent IVF twice so I know a little about the process. And I can tell you that this doctor knew or should have known that this woman was unstable and he was putting her life at risk as well as her children’s. He most likely wanted to improve his statistics, which are very important in the IVF world. I went to FCI for my fertility treatments, and I can tell you that if Nadya Suleman went there after already having six kids and wanting a load more, they’d have booted her faster than you can say “Suze Orman’s teeth are disturbingly white.”
And Suleman’s whole situation is more egregious than originally thought. Testimony shows there weren’t six leftover frozen embryos implanted as Suleman claimed, but rather 12 fresh embryos.
From a Los Angeles Times article on the hearing of Dr. Kamrava:
“Dr. Victor Y. Fujimoto, director of UC San Francisco’s In Vitro Fertilization Program, testified that Kamrava repeatedly failed to screen Suleman for mental health issues and to limit the number of embryos she had implanted or frozen.
He said Suleman’s medical records show that the octuplets were the result of Kamrava implanting a dozen embryos.”
So according to an expert who saw her medical records, Suleman lied about having six embryos implanted, she really had 12. Dr. Kamrava’s excuse? Nadya verbally agreed to selectively reduce the number of fetuses if the IVF resulted in multiple pregnancies. What kind of crazy doctor implants TWELVE EMBRYOS in a mentally ill women who already has six children and no means of supporting them???
This guy is still practicing medicine more than two years after the octopulets’ birth and still advertising his fertility expertise. The Medical Board of California has charged him with gross negligence — but as of today he still holds a medical license. Apparently Dr. Kamrava will learn whether he can still practice medicine on January 27; if he doesn’t lose his medical license it is a travesty.
So my point here is while of course Suleman is accountable for her actions, I believe the woman is very troubled and needs help . And she was victimized by an unscrupulous doctor. A stern lecture by Suze Orman wasn’t going to solve this family’s problems. Basically Orman told Suleman to get an agent to obtain some kind of entertainment deal, go to church, have a garage sale, lose the nannies, stop any unnecessary spending and suck it up. Oh, and Suleman had to admit she was a “baby addict.” Thanks, Dr. Suze!
This woman’s children need a real intervention. Of course any financial assistance shouldn’t go directly to Suleman, but some kind of conservator who ensures the children are properly cared for. Apparently there is a German documentary floating around that shows how deplorable the conditions are at their home. It’s hard to feel sorry for Suleman for sure, but what about the kids?
I feel like, at least what we witnessed in the audience, Orman dissected her finances, gave her a harsh talking to and then walked away, leaving the same mess of a woman behind. Needless to say, this wasn’t the most uplifting Oprah experience in the world. My “a-ha moment” was discovering that Suze Orman might be half barracuda. And of course that there are children out there who desperately need someone to step up and save them.
By the way, want Oprah tickets in her last season? I think the easiest way to get them is to check here and scroll down to last minute reservations. I hope you get a better show than I did!

I love how she calls her bonkers and then says that the invisible man in the sky doesn't put more on your plate than you can handle. What kind of stupid advice is that? Obviously she has more than she can handle. And I agree with the audience member that no mother should say on National Television that her children are a mistake. What kind of creepy woman is Orman

I think Suze Orman is an honest one. She is right-that last batch of babies were a mistake.
She also pointed out a lot of other women are just as guilty. They can't afford the one they have, yet go on to have another baby that they can't afford even worse.
We have all seen that happen. Like, who couldn't see that coming?

*sigh* Yes, I watched it. And yes, Orman was a bitch, but I'm sure it's infuriating to deal with someone as out of touch with reality as Nadya. She pretty much told it like it is.

She needs much more help than a financial "guru" can give her. She needs a team of mental health experts too. And even that might not help.

I had to laugh when she denied having any plastic surgery though. She's really hung up on acting like she didn't ask for all this attention.

I agree with that and the way the audience member blamed the doctor. But she's certainly not expected to announce her regret of her "mistakes" on air? I mean seriously.

Sounds like it was an ambush on Nadya.

Basically Orman told Suleman to get an agent to obtain some kind of entertainment deal, go to church, have a garage sale, lose the nannies

Octomom has already done most of these things. Couldn't Suze have offered up some better advice or actual help in someway. I don't know what, but yelling at her and calling her a liar sure probably won't help anything.

I don't like Suze either but in her position I might have done the same, no it wouldn't help but damn I would feel better afterwards

I thought Octo was going to say the people at the church volunteered to help her with child care. I actually think it's dangerous for one women to try and watch 14 kids alone when 8 of them are only 2. I agree, she is nuts and they brought her on there for ratings and to shame her.
