"Star Wars" Films to be Re-Released in 3D Theaters in 2012

    Posted: September 29th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

George Lucas has been planning to convert the "Star Wars" saga to 3D in order to re-release all six films theatrically. He has been waiting until there were enough 3D screens available. And according to a Lucasfilm statement, the time has come.

Episode I, "The Phantom Menace," would be the first one to hit theaters, which will happen early 2012. After that, each film would be released in order at the same time in consecutive years, depending on how well the first re-release does.

"There are few movies that lend themselves more perfectly to 3D; from the Death Star trench run to the Tatooine Podrace, the 'Star Wars Saga' has always delivered an entertainment experience that is completely immersive," said the statement.

In the meantime, Lucas plans a comprehensive Blu-ray Disc set of the six films next year, which will include upgraded picture and sound quality, new deleted scenes and special features.

Oh just let it go already George. What about the story of the Jedi Twins and what happened after Return Of The Jedi? Try doing that instead of redoing all the other stories over and over again. And for the love of the series, give it up with the prequels! They sucked, we know, get over it, move on! Dont try to ram it down everyones throat!

George Lucas must be making a mint from all these re-issued copies of the same movie:

    1. Revenue from the original theatrical release of Star Wars movies
    2. Revenue from the VHS/Beta video tape release
    3. Revenue from DVDs
    4. Revenue from Blu-Ray DVDs (because you HAVE to have that extra resolution)
    5. Revenue from 3D version

And scores of 40-year-old virgins living in their parents' basements will thank him for it.
