Default 'Let the Right One In': Vampire movie gets American remake

I really liked the original. It wasn't really horror for me, but it was well done. So now they're making an American version by the director of Cloverfield and the little boy who played the son(?) in The Road.

    Here is the trailer:

    Won't embed for me, sorry.

I'm not so sure about this trailer. The original movie had drawn out scenes and no thrashy music. But it's possible the trailer is being done this way to get more American viewers.

Have you seen the original? It wasn't one of those scary music and then something suddenly pops out at you movies. It wasn't scary at all for me, I thought it was interesting. But some people might call it a 'chiller'.

I saw the original and it was beautifully done. Brilliant performances by the two young actors. However, I do wonder about the American version. I would like to see how it turns out but something already tells me it's not that good.

The original was beautiful, why do we Americans have to bastardize everything??

^^I know! I thought it was a beautiful movie, so atmospheric. I couldn't stop thinking about it and had to get the book. The actress who played Eli had such an ethereal, androgynous presence. I really liked her.

    I loved the book.

I really liked the original Let the right one in, there's no need for a remake. I also love the original Shall we Dance, which is fantastic, unlike the crap-fest starring JHo and Richard Gere.
The only remake I liked better than the original was The Birdcage with Nathan Lane. I love, love, love that movie.

The original wasn't gruesome, gory, or shock-tactic horror by any means, but it was definitely creepy and atmospheric... and strangely sweet, too.

What I wonder about the remake is how they're going to handle certain spoilery plot points that were even more prominent in the book. I am afraid the answer will be "not well" or "not at all".

no The Exorcist did me in, if I even think it's one of those movies with kids heads turning around I won't watch it. This sounds more paranormal romance with vampires? But the trailer didn't look all paranormal romance it looked like jump out and scare the crap out of you. Maybe I'll try to rent the original one

It will probably be decent on its own, but the original had a sort of spare beauty and enigmatic quality that unfortunately American movie makers just don't know how to master (or perhaps they do, and realize that the majority of the audience prefers it otherwise).

It seems with 'remakes' a lot of what is implied or left up to the viewer in the originals has to be made literal and obvious in the American versions. Not to mention the 'need' for more special effects, etc.

I read it a few years ago, the English translation was pretty good. The original movie stuck reasonably close to the book, except, as always, there was a lot more detail. Specifically, Eli's backstory. The relationship between Eli and Hakan is a little more overtly spelled out as well, and Hakan doesn't meet his end in quite the same way, either.

I loved the original!!! but will give the remake a chance just because Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl) plays the tiny lethal vamp. The official website has just the right dose of creepy
