Tim Burton is Developing "Sleeping Beauty" Movie

    Posted: January 19th, 2010 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

AICN is reporting that director Tim Burton (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland) is planning to develop another live-action/CG feature film, this time based on the classic "Sleeping Beauty" fairy tale.

His plan is not to just re-tell the same story; the new movie will instead focus on the villainous Maleficent, who curses the infant Princess Aurora to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday after not being invited to the baby's christening.

She is often viewed as the most powerful and sinister of the Disney Villains, frequently acting as their leader in many crossovers.

At this point, it is not clear if "Maleficent" will be Burton's next project since he has been promising to re-team with Johnny Depp for the big screen adaptation of "Dark Shadows." Stay tuned.

Maleficient is my daughter's absolute favorite. It sort of sucks that he's doing this project since it will likely be unsuitable for kids.

Kids these days just need to suck it up. I loved being scared as a kid. Ghost stories, etc.

I'm sure he'll cast Johnny Depp in the title role.

Being scared is one thing. Taking your kids to get tripped out is another.

I hated scary movies then and I hate them now. Everyone is different. Its not about 'the kids today as opposed to the kids of yesterday'. Some kids like to be scared, some do not.

Of all the names you've been called here, you take issue with "dude?" LOL!

His films are all the same. Same look, same actors, same everything. None of them are geared toward a young audience, which is fine. He's the only person who could make the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory look normal. Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka was downright freaky. Frankly I hated Alice in Wonderland with an absoulte passion as a kid. It won't be hard to stay away from Burton's verision of it. I do wish he'd leave Maleficent alone though.

lol i loved being tripped out and scared as a kid. has your daughter ever watched 'the adventures of baron munchausen'? that's one trippy kid's movie. terry gilliam! doesn't get any weirder than that. and what about the original peewee herman movie? that's a tim burton movie. my childhood wouldn't have been complete without that. such an awesome movie. my brothers and sister loved it too and they were younger than me.

i'm with twitchy. it's not kids that are different today. it's kids' movies. they've been completely dumbed down and are devoid of anything even slightly negative, and are all just stupid songs. kids aren't dumb. they can take a lot more than people give them credit for. look at the fairy tales we grew up with? the brothers grimm and all that... i bet they're considered too dark and violent for kids today. and that's kind of sad.
