Fans of The X-Files have been discussing a possible third film in the science fiction series since the release of last year’s much maligned X-Files: I Want To Believe. While no concrete news has yet been released, it would appear that all of the principals are on board to return for a third big-screen X-Files adventure.
The latest person to talk up X-Files 3 is Fox Mulder himself - David Duchovny.
Duchovny recently spoke with The Daily Beast and stated that (like most fans) he would like the next film to tackle the 2012 mythology within the hit show.
Duchovny said: “As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy. I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”
While the last film wasn’t a huge critical success ( although I quite liked it), it did make enough coin at the box office to warrant a sequel - $68 million from a $30 million budget, which doesn’t factor in television sales and DVD revenue.
While nothing is set in stone yet, there have been rumblings that Mulder and Scully will turn on their flashlights for another spooky mystery. In the past, Duchovny’s co-star Gillian Anderson has also said that she'd be up to return to the hugely successful franchise.
There have been recent rumors that 20th Century Fox is planning to bring X-Files 3 to the screen without the help of creator Chris Carter.
Screen Rant will keep you posted on all X-Files developments when we get them.

I liked the last movie. It was like a decent episode of the series. It could have been better but I'll be right there if they do another one. Love the series, love the characters and love the actors.

I'm more interested in his addiction to sex. seX-Files seems more appropriate now.

I was pretty neutral on "I Want to Believe" but my husband and I kept getting distracted by Gillian's PS or Botox or whatever the hell she did to her face.

Ummm, my name is Kittylady and I am *sobs* an X-Phile...
IWTB wasn't all that I'd hoped for, though. If they want to make a third film and have it be as successful as the first or the TV series they need to bring back some of the better writers from the show rather than Chris Carter trying to fly it solo.

But Darin Morgan is still kicking, isn't he? And he was responsible for a few of peoples favourite episodes, including the Emmy winning Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose. No offence to Chris Carter, the fans will always be grateful for him coming up with The X-Files, but he wasn't the strongest writer on the show.

At the risk of sounding like a hopeless nerd, TXF was the gold standard of TV for me. I haven't been able to get into another show since like I was that one. It was Quality.
I want them to go back to the mythology, because that was the crux of the show, but I know it's convoluted as shit and hard to follow if you haven't watched the whole series.

Yes, he is - as is his brother Glen and Glen's writing partner James Wong. Vince Gilligan, Frank Spotnitz, and Chris Carter are also still breathing. They all wrote classic episodes and could again, if they'd pull it together.

Laurent I don't know if you have ever tried to watch Supernatural but as a total hard core Xphile I highly recommend it. Kim Manners fingerprints are all over it as he produced or directed most episodes until he passed.

Never tried to watch, but I just looked it up and see that it comes on the CW. The basic plot looks interesting (and vaguely familiar ), so I might try and catch it. Thanks for the rec.

I found Supernatural a bit fluffy, didn't enjoy it.
I totally called another X-Files movie in 2012, I wonder if it'd be released on December 21st (that was the big date, right?) could be good! I loooooved X-Files

I used to love X-files. I thought they were going to do something like a reboot? With different actors? Or is that just a crazy rumour?
