    Default Gay movies

Dunno if anyone here has ever scene a gay movie here or not, but what the hell.

With the recent popularity in Brokeback Mountain, many people have asked me about what kind of gay movies there are out there. Now IMO I tend to go for the gay/gay-youth movies out there that are positive as well as stimulating. Not the cliche' gay guy dies of AIDS/is a whore/is a queen kind of gay movies. I'm talking about good gay movies that have a strong message, but is'nt afraid of being itself.

One of the movies that I've recently got into a year ago was "Latter Days" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0345551/.

In a nutshell it's about this gay player that seduces a Mormon missonary who has sexual identity crisis. It has a good message, nice camera work for a low-budget film, and a good romance angle in it. And that's why I have them in my avatar and sig.

Since I've been interested in my other half of my bi-sexuality, I've been watching some good gay movie out there. So does anyone have a fav gay/lesbian film they like to watch and why?

I liked Farewell My Concubine...esp the historical and societal contexts.

Film traces the 50-year homoerotic relationship between two Beijing opera actors who eventually reunite in Hong Kong.

My personal favorite is Maurice. Hugh Grant and some blonde guy (Maurice) fall in love in Edwardian England, and it's illegal to be gay and all, and they lay around in wheat fields and hold hands and stuff, etc. Hugh sort of rejects his homosexuality after a while and goes straight and leaves Maurice high and dry. They go through the motions of just being friends, and Maurice struggles with his sexuality over the years. He meets someone else, but isn't sure if he can trust him, and has to worry about getting arrested on top of everything else.

It's one of my favorite movies ever. Very romantic, very English, nice scenery. The ending just kills me every time.

I don't go out looking for gay movies, but if I stumble across one like
Kiss of the Spider Woman or Prick Up Your Ears, I think people ought
    to rent it.

I really like this movie too. It was a little confusing at times but it was really good.

Good ones that are kinda cliche: Ma Vie en Rose, and Paris is Burning. Not to mention The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. And then there's The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, which is just plain good and not cliche at all. I haven't seen Before Night Falls, but I really want to.
