I think most of the top players lack personality these days. As for Tomic, he is an immature brat.

I've just spent some time with the stewards and the general consensus was Rafa, Andy and Novak are humble and friendly and Roger is rude.

shut up about my Roger, levitt. I met him at the UN ages and ages a go and he was super nice, he's just more reserved. And Swiss.

Lol sorry a*o but there were lots of arrogant, bratty and rude players back in the day too. If anything, they were more openly rude than today - John McEnroe, jimmy Connors, Jeff Tarango... To name a few. And later as well, Marcelo rios could be a total dick, Becker, etc.

All players have their "moments" but the older generation did at least make an effort to be gracious sportsmen with good manners. They no doubt smashed their rackets in the locker room, not in front of the cameras and crowd. McEnroe started the rot.

I'm old enough (fuck off) to remember players like Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Stan Smith, Arthur Ashe, Virginia Wade, Billy Jean King, etc and they just quietly go on with playing great tennis without all the drahmah. Mind you, they didn't earn the millions that even mid-range modern players do which I'm sure made a difference to their general demeanour and sense of entitlement.

^You obviously never watched Jimmy Connors. He was a total brat on court.

He was indeed. And creepy. And I hated prissy cyborg Chris Evert too. Instead of having too much "personality" she had none whatsoever. Talk about ice princess. But at least she didn't shriek like a banshee on every fucking shot. Flame away.

omg i HATE the shriekers like Sharapova, or Larcher DeBrito. Azarenka has some sort of owl screech. Williams only does it when she's panicked or later on in the match.

i can handle the men making noise because they grunt. The women are bordering on gamesmanship. this is why i don't watch any WTA matches anymore

Note to sports commentators, it's WimbleDon not WimbleTon. The spelling is a clue.

Apparently John McEnroe is a cunt, what a shocking revelation.

Whoever played against Serena yesterday made the FAKEST noises. They were definitely not "effort" grunts, they were like orgasm squeals. Really didn't want to hear it.

I don't watch women's tennis anymore because of the shrieking and because there are never any surprises and there are maybe 5 top players who are way ahead of everyone else and win everything and there aren't as many surprises as you have in men's tennis. Also, on a way more shallow note, the men are hotter.
But I used to love watching Martina Hingis play. She relied on her brain rather than brute strength and she played some of the most tactical, brilliant tennis ever.

I love Sabine Lisicki. She caused some upsets last year - two, in fact: Serena and Radswanka. I was at the Radswanka match and it was GREAT.

VAMOS RAFA!!!! Awesome win, now he has shaken off the ghost of 2012. So, so proud of him. Love love love love love

I don't get Radwanska at all. She doesn't have a great serve, and that odd thing she does, when she practically kneels down to get a ball, drives me insane.

I was up bright and early for Rafa, and i gave myself a headache cheering. LOL

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Ilie Nastase yet. He had the temperament of Gerard Depardieu being denied access to the airplane bathroom.

I read Connors book. well, half of it. It was horribly written. I couldn't finish it. McEnroe's book was great.

and yep, Nasty was a big old asshole.
