I agree with Dick Button's analysis. (Unpopular opinion thread - I agree with most things he says about figure skating.)

Plushenko is technically good, but the program wasn't exciting. It didn't do anything for me.

Plushenko seems to be a pompous jerk. He can do a quad, but his routine didn't have much artistry as far as I'm concerned.

I'm trying to remember because I haven't watched men's figure skating in forever, but wasn't he always much better at the technical aspect of the sport than the artistic side?

Plushenko is a power skater, but I agree that he's short on the elegance and grace. I do enjoy watching him because his jumps are so explosive and high and he skates so fast.

Why isn't Dick doing commentary during the event?

    Good question.

The 80-year-old dean of figure skating commentary will be back on television for NBC's coverage of the games, providing analysis in chats with Olympic host Bob Costas during breaks in the action.
This according to NPR. Well, the guy is 80.

Maybe he can't take Scott Hamilton's fangirl squealing.

LOL. 80 year olds tend to say what they think and that might not be pc.

He was wearing a lovely purple sweater tonight! Dick Button, that is!

I'm getting ready to punch Scott Hamilton myself. Shaddap already!

Daisuke Takahashi looks pretty good for a guy that had ACL surgery. Way more artistry than Plushenko.

Their scores are thisclose. Plushenko has 90.85 and Takahashi has 90.25.

Plushenko was boring despite his quad.

The men's costumes are so over the top.

I didn't even realize Stephane Lambiel was still skating. I thought he'd retired. He's still got great spins, though.
