I tend to agree, and we probably stopped watching about the same time, oh I loved Ms Diva Svetlana! I always go back to the uneven bars....years ago they were closer together which made for some very elegant transitions from high bar to low bar. Now that they are further apart their routines resemble the men's.

LOS ANGELES - Ellen DeGeneres says she’s not racist after receiving backlash on social media for posting an edited photo of herself riding on the back of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
The talk show host said Tuesday on Twitter that she’s “highly aware of the racism that exists in our country” but that’s “the furthest thing from who I am.”
DeGeneres posted the photo Monday with the caption: “This is how I’m running errands from now on.”

The image of a white woman riding a black man was criticized by many users on social media.
The original photo of Bolt smiling while running went viral following his gold medal win in the 100-meter dash.
The comedienne frequently posts photos of herself edited into topical moments and scenes from popular films and TV shows.

Sorry for double posting again...my iPad is finicky! Anyway, everyone loves to dump on everything. I was pretty surprised that people took this the wrong way. I mean it's ELLEN for Pete's sake.

Yes and it's very beautiful to watch, but I prefer the skill and athleticism of regular gymnastics. I grew up idolising Nadia Comaneci so I prefer gymnasts who are graceful like ballerinas but stronger and more dynamic.

I also remember the scoring went crazy for a while and everyone was getting perfect scores even if they'd fuck up the landing or wobble on the apparatus. It all just seemed so rigged, I lost interest.

I met Svetlana Khorkina at a post event get-together at the Doubletree back in 2005. Very sweet lady.

I'm not a fan of mustaches, but then I'm also not a fan of six-packs. So, despite the face fur, Spitz is my fave.

Phelps just has an unfortunate head. The rest of him is hot.

I loved when the US girls came 1/2/3 in the hurdles, but the gold and silver winners didn't start celebrating until they knew their team mate had taken the bronze. I thought that was really sweet.

Sorry I don't know the US TV scheduling times, I watched the race live and it was before midday my time, i.e. a couple of hours ago.

No worries, I try really hard to avoid spoilers, but they seem to be everywhere on social media, etc. I still watch the events, though.

How are Phelps and Lochte, and swimmers in general, able to eat so much food and not get fat??? They supposedly consume, like, 6000 calories a day.

So, about the lady who dove to the finish line. If they change the rules to where people have to stay on their feet, will they take her medal away from her?

^^^It was unfair to me, but I don't know enough about the rules.

Conspiracy theory check: Why would Lochte and his teammates fabricate a story about getting robbed?
How come Lochte was able to leave the country before the Rio police could detain him?
WTF is going on? Would our swimming federation be involved in a cover-up?

^I read a theory on how maybe they were robbed by escorts or in the course of other such unsavory activities they'd rather hide from sponsors/coaches? It cited how they claimed their wallets had been taken, but some security footage showed them putting them in the baskets to get through Olympic Village security at the end of the night. It was an NPR story. I really don't know. I know Brazilian gov't is shady and corrupt AF but then again, who knows the shit these athletes really get up to.

Ryan Lochte Has Left Brazil €” Where Police Tried To Seize His Passport Over Robbery Claim : The Torch : NPR

Police visited the athletes' village in Rio Wednesday, hoping to seize the passports of Ryan Lochte and James Feigen as part of an inquiry into Lochte's report that he was the victim of a robbery — a crime that has since been called into question.Lochte's attorney, Jeffrey M. Ostrow, tells NPR that the decorated swimmer is already back in the United States.

Update at 10:30 p.m. ET: 2 American Swimmers Detained

Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, who were with Ryan Lochte last weekend when their group reportedly suffered a robbery, are now speaking to police, the U.S. Olympic Committee has confirmed.

Police stopped the two swimmers at Rio's Tom Jobim International Airport, taking them off their flight back home in order to question them.
A remaining question regards the whereabouts of Feigen — he reportedly checked into the same flight as Bentz and Conger, but he did not board the plane.

    Our original post continues:

"Local police arrived at the Olympic Village" this morning, according to a statement from the U.S. Olympic Committee, "and asked to meet with Ryan Lochte and James Feigen and collect their passports in order to secure further testimony from the athletes."

In a follow-up email to our initial exchange, Ostrow says that Lochte "gave a witness statement under oath" to police while he was in Rio. He adds, "Since that time, they have not reached out to either Ryan nor me to ask for additional information in connection with their investigation."

The police visit came as questions have intensified around Lochte's account from this past weekend, when he told NBC that he and three other swimmers — including Feigen — were robbed after a taxi they were traveling in was stopped by thieves posing as police.

As you might recall, Lochte's description included this line: "I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet — he left my cellphone, he left my credentials."

But police have had trouble verifying that version of events — and a video recently emerged that purportedly shows Lochte and his fellow swimmers returning to the athletes' village on the night in question, passing through a security checkpoint where a surveillance camera filmed their movements.

When that video was published on The Daily Mail's website, it was initially described as showing how Lochte "and his shaken teammates slunk back into the Athletes Village after a night of partying ended in a chilling gunpoint robbery."

But a close viewing of the video shows that Lochte and his friends were wearing their watches when they returned — and that they put their cellphones and other belongings into baskets at the security gate. Here in Rio, the video intensified questions about whether thieves would neglect to take cellphones — a valuable commodity.
The group of swimmers also seemed to be relaxed and joking, rather than looking shaken up by a crime, the O Globo news site reports.
After news of the apparent robbery spread this past Sunday, Lochte issued a statementin which he thanked his family and fans for their concern. He added, "what is most important is that we are safe and unharmed."

As for where the swimmers are now, the U.S. Olympic Committee says Lochte and Feigen left the Olympic Village along with the rest of the swim team, following the end of their competitions in Rio.

We're not certain where Feigen is today; the USOC cites its standard security protocol in saying, "We do not make athlete travel plans public and therefore cannot confirm the athletes' current location."
