I'm guessing the theory is that since OJ wasn't in college when he killed those people, it's ok to allow him to keep the heisman?
    Kill him.

Well I can see the other side of the story too. Since Bush was being compensated (however indirectly) he should not be eligible for prizes that are reserved for non-professionals. I totally blame the parents, school, and agents for handling him improperly. They were more interested in riding his ass to the bank than they were in helping him.

That and he wasn't convicted of the murders.

If I were Reggie, I'd have kept my mouth shut and my head down. I wouldn't have given the Heisman up until they came to my house and pried it out of my fingers.

I don't know I think it looks better on him to just give it back rather than drag this shit out any longer.

Jesus, people. It's simple. The Heisman is awarded to the most outstanding player who pursued excellence with integrity, and who is eligible that year under the NCAA rules. He isn't and wasn't eligible for that award. O.J. was, and what he did after that doesn't relate to his eligibility for the award at the time. Them's the rules, and they all know the rules.

And if you guys don't think Reggie knew you aren't allowed to take hundreds of thousands of dollars as a college athlete, you're on crack. They are all made aware of what you can't do in relation to agents and boosters. Some players and even some schools, it seems, choose to try to get away with it. This was the biggest, most blatant take in the history of the game. The entire SMU team got the death penalty for less. What you get as a college player is a totally free education and the chance to make BANK in the NFL. Not a bad deal.

Oh and Reggie's a total douche for a number of reasons. Screwed over his team for years to come and won't even admit what he did. I'm glad he got his shit pushed in in the national championship game.

I am calling bullshit on integrity when 99% of NCAA players would do and DO do the same exact shit when it is offered to them. Just so happens someone in Reggie's camp pissed off the wrong person and the shit unraveled around them, and my dude got caught, and got his shit, that he earned based on athletic ability, snatched from him.
Yeah the team is fucked but I am sure the powers that be there, they weren't blind deaf and dumb. They knew what was up. Please.
Let me add that in 5 years if someone starts sniffing around Mark Ingram's ass I WILL cut a bitch lol

Pete Carroll ran a dirty program, which is one issue- but Bush accepted the graft, which is another.

The Heisman is an award for excellence in amateur college football. Reggie Bush was no longer an amateur when he accepted money. Therefore he is ineligible. No amount of "aw, it happens everywhere and he just got caught" rationalizations change that fact.

It doesn't take away from his talent, which I admire, but those are the NCAA rules and every athlete knows it. NCAA Rules regarding athletes and financial gain are in place to protect. By easing up restrictions, you expose athletes to bribery, extortion, game fixing, etc.

He chose to take money for extras: a car, a house for his family, etc. He took a chance when he accepted the gifts. He gambled and lost.

And I'm just saying the kid was what? 19 or 20 when this all went down? Sorry, but judgment isn't fully developed at that age. I blame the actual adults involved.

    ^^

I think his parents are deserving of most of the blame. It doesn't absolve Bush, but I'm sure they pressured him to take the money.

Yes, Reggie screwed the team for years to come. Where did I say he ALONE did? Running backs coach was involved, it's clear from the investigation. I'm sure Pete knew, but he wasn't going to personally get his hands dirty, just looked the other way.

Again, this was the single biggest graft in the history of the game. Every once in a while, you hear of textbooks or dinners being bought, and every once in a longer while, a car here and there or improper payment for jobs not performed (see Oklahoma, the dirtbag cheaters), and the NCAA investigates, but you don't hear about a whole freaking house worth hundreds of thousands of dollars being gifted to a student athlete. He knew that was wrong, and took the chance that shit would blow up and hurt his team, while he skated off to the NFL without any real personal consequences. He has as much integrity as the skank he used to date.

i couldn't care less about football but i have to agree with manx. at 19-20 you're still young but you understand the rules, and you understand that taking gifts of that value is tantamount to taking money. and he did it anyway. and if that means he gets stripped of his trophy, tough shit.
if he'd killed someone at that age no one would question whether or not he should be tried as an adult but he broke the rules knowingly and now everyone's all 'but he was just a kid! it's not his fault!' just because they like how he plays football?
sure, he's not the only one to blame since he was just a part of a corrupt system but that doesn't change the fact that he's no longer eligible.
