Stadiums have the dumbest names now...sold to the highest bidder.

We have "Petco Park" yuck, named after Petco of course. Also qualcom stadium is also called the "Q".
If I can't be a good example, then let me be a horrible warning.

This is one of my sore spots.

My undergrad school renamed their stadium after a corporation that sponsored its expansion and it's quite possibly the stupidest name in college football. They poured the money in though when the school was trying to move up to Division 1A and the school fell all over themselves to change the name.

^ That's really sad. How wrong. For as long as I can remember baseball, in America at least, has always been portrayed "as American as apple pie." In baseball movies the point is made to illustrate boys bonding with their fathers, or boys looking up to their heroes. Not son and father get inundated by all the sponsor flags and banners at the stadium and instead of bringing home souvenirs from players they bring home mouse pads and pamphlets on cell-phone deals. It's really sad that America is willing to sell out it's own history. Sometimes it feels like everything has it's price here. I know I'm living in a time warp, but what ISN'T for sale these days?

The major sports stadium in Melbourne is the MCG (aka "the G") as in Melbourne Cricket Ground. They play footy there in the winter and it will be the main stadium for the 2006 Commonwealth Games next March. The other big stadium is the Telstra (the Aussie semi-nationalised/private phone company) Dome which has a covered roof when required. Sometimes referred to as the Phone Dome when media outlets cannot name company names.
