A gold medal couldn’t distract the world from focusing on Ryan Lochte’s diamond grill! The Olympic swimmer took the top spot at the men’s 400-meter individual medley race on Saturday and, true to tradition, popped in an Americana diamond grill to celebrate. ”I wear it when I go on the podium,” Lochte told Speedo in an interview. ”It’s just a unique way of showing personality out to everyone.” However, it was a bit too much personality for some—USA Today reported that he was forbidden from wearing it on the podium to pick up his medal, though he did get wear it for photos as soon as he left the top block.

^ I think it's tacky as all hell too. It makes him look like an absolute tool, so if that's him 'showing personality' he can shove it, thanks. Lil Wayne called, etc, etc.

If it's real diamonds in there, he's twice the fool I thought he was for paying beaucoup $$$ for that tacky eyesore.

In other news, I just saw where the Queen's granddaughter, Zara Phillips, just won silver with the British equestrian team.

Diva princess Aussie swimmer had meltdown because she "only" got silver. These entitled brats make me sick. I seriously think social media is largely to blame where they can bask in the adoration of their fans and start to believe they are as awesome as people tell them they are. James Magnussen needed "psychological counselling" after coming 4th in the 4x100 men's relay. Grow a pair ffs. The lack of sportsmanship at these games is shameful.

It is. You would think they'd have learned how to lose over years of competing.

It's partly because Sport is a religion in Australia and you are often judged/defined by your sporting prowess or ability. Nothing else matters. It starts at primary school where, to be fair, sport is still a central part of the curriculum and that's a good thing but it does create "attitude problems" in sportsmen/women who go out on the international stage and realise with a shock that others are as good, and sometimes better. But the great Aussie public, fuelled by the media of course, expect nothing but Gold medals because it makes our dicks look bigger on the world stage. Australia still has a huge chip on its shoulder about some things. Sigh.

NBC is finally airing the women's gymnastics here and I just watched McKayla Maroney's vault. She got a deduction for something, but I don't understand what. She didn't even microhop when she landed.
