I'd still think it was a wonky rule. If you have a score in the top 24, you should compete in the top 24, imo.

Not that I"m going to lose any sleep over it.

Figure skating is the same way - you done good, you didn't. The only "fair" competitions are determined by measurement, not the human eye.

Figure skating implemented that Code of Points malarky back in 2004 because of the crap that happened during the 2002 Olys. What it managed to do is kill presentation, because they're all churning out jumps for the points and not doing much in the way of artistic stuff anymore. And it's hard to think it's fair when you see cheated jumps get positive grade of execution.

I hate the way the Gymnasts qualify. The top 24 should get in period. The Olympics is about the best of the best. Isn't that how they do swimming and track? The fastest get in, no matter if one or ten are from one country.

I thought so, but no. Swimming follows the same sort of thing. Only 2 athletes per nation are allowed to enter in each individual event at the Olympics.

I was so so gutted for the Ukrainian boys in gymnastics today. To think you've gotten and medal and then not... ugh. to them!

I immediately switched from US to Great Britian for gymnastics! I wanted them to get the siver so bad, but hey! Bronze will do.

The thing that makes it easier though is that swimming is decided at the national level - you know going to the Olympics who they are. Gymnastics is decided at the Olympics.

The subjectivity is what hurts - just like figure skating. And where you are in the line up too. I think it sucks that 4th overall is not in the final group? WOW. Then again she was not perfect and her teammate made less errors. If you put that into perspective against any other sport it's the same. A swimmer or runner may not start their race perfectly (like they did 2,000 other times) and that may cost them a medal.

Gee - here in the US I don't know if they even showed the Ukrainian team - at least before 11pm (by which time I was sound asleep) . Seriously - my coverage was 99% USA - then a quikc 2 mimute round up "oh and by the way this is what else was going on while the US was on the floor".

Someone in the US correct me if I am wrong - but did they even show a complete floor routine from a country other than the US??

Where I am, London is 6 hours ahead. I would rather NBC air stuff as it happens in London during the middle of the day than wait until primetime when it's all been over for hours and hours and hours.

Didn't they show all the British gymnasts on floor?

I've been using the NBC live streaming service, it might have it's faults but it's better than having to wait for hours to see swimming or gymnastics.

I may do that. Even at work, I'd rather watch snippits here and there when I can as it happens than watch it on massive delay at night.

Besides, all they show in my area during the day is Days of Our Lives and about 3 hours of tv judge/court shows.

Good job by the American girls in the gymnastics! You'd have thought the Russians had come last by their reactions!
