The beauty of Olympics! Is a short time you will feel you are an expert.

The Opening is getting high praise here. They even brought the Parade of countries through in record time.
I loved the line of construction workers that have worked so hard to build this, they needed to be honored.
I loved that they used real doctors and nurses.
I loved all the Mary Poppins coming down!
    The costumes were fantastic.
I loved the speed boat with David Beckham coming down the Thames at night.
This was all so perfect and none of it could have worked for a different country. Highly British and oh so well done.

Now Beckham and the speedboat kicked ass.

    That's really nice, Mcjag.

There are certain events I like more but I will watch pretty much everything. I love to see people winning medals, no matter where they are from. I like seeing how excited they get, as cheesy as that sounds.

The cycling race going on at the moment goes through London and Surrey. Surrey has some lovely places.

F-ing CTV here in Canada seems to have skipped the Mary Poppins/Voldemort part! Bastards. We had DVRd the whole thing so even went back to check and the buggers skipped it.

I loved the opening. It accomplished exactly what was expected. We got to see a dramatic display of the history of a wonderful country. The girl with the cell phone was a great trip down memory lane as we remembered all the fantasic music contributed by Brits. I just wonder what all the athletes were doing since they are not there for any of the show.

I loved the ceremony, it was wonderfully camp and Eurovision-like cheesefest. My highlights were:
    - that I recognized (very very smug) Kenneth Branagh reading Tempest (I even guessed the play correctly) before Finnish commentators did
    - Queen + Bond + corgis
    - Children singing
    - celebrating NHS (and the meltdown that some US commentators had for celebrating evil socialism)
    - that they had these young kids lighting the flame, not some boring old fart
    - Becks driving the boat
    - Tardis landing noise (but I expected to see the Doctor after that, boo that he was not there)
and the absolute best of the best cherry on top and whatsit:
    - Queen picking her fingernails while British team came to the stadium

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but *actually* from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff.

[Small country] just got gold in bicycling. The guy who won it was very emotional. I think he was about 38, too.[Another small country] took the Silver. I have to admit, I didn't expect these countries to go one-two. Very cool.

I felt emotional for him, Mohandas! He was thinking of retiring. What a good way to finish your career.

Don't you love it when some country gets an unexpected medal? We always root for the underdogs and I love hearing their stories.

Damnit, it did feel like I was posting something in the wrong thread. Thanks for the heads up. Didn't even think about that.

ETA: I just edited my thread to take out the countries. But Sarzy is quoting me in her reply and I can't control that one.....

I just hope they play the correct anthem for Kazakhstan this time. Remember back in March when they accidentally played the version from Borat at the event in Kuwait??? Some of the lyrics:

"Kazakhstan's prostitutes are the cleanest in the region, except, of course, for Turkmenistan's. Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, you very nice place .. come grasp the mighty penis of our leader from junction with testes to tip of its face."
