I'm not going to fight about this. I didn't think your post about the Supreme Court made much sense, considering that we were talking about ethics & morals, not law, but there's no sense in squabbling. Obviously, our brains are quite dissimilar & I don't feel like beating mine against a brick wall today.

"evolving standards of decency"---
morality is as much a societal construct as an individual one. Don't see what's so obtuse about that, but I don't see why you're arguing with me either. C'est la vie.

You got that right.
However, I must admit to thoroughly enjoying the movie Sea Biscuit.

Couldn't they have at least waited to get the horse off the track? I mean, was it really necessary to have it killed infront of everybody?

It was. They did put up that curtain thing. She was in too much pain to wait.

Because she broke both front ankles she couldnt stand up, so they had to euthanize her on the spot. I asked my horse vet about her. He said he had never ever heard of a horse breaking both front legs in a situation like this. He wondered if there was an undetected hairline fracture prior to the race. Also, he said because she was a huge filly, that sometimes when they grow that fast that young (not full grown until 5) they develope lesions in the bone, which might have been a contributing issue.
