In Paterno's statement, he said he told the Athletic Director, Tim Curley, and the head of the campus police, Gary Schultz. I can only guess/speculate that he thought they would either take care of it or call the police themselves.

Curley and Schultz are the ones who were indicted for the cover-up. Paterno's obligation, by many, is seen to have been a moral one - he probably should have told more people about what he knew back in 2002.

thanks, it makes more sense now. i admit i've only very superficially followed this story, mostly just from headlines on the news, because i don't follow sports in general and much less colleges sports and i'd never even heard of paterno until the scandal.

A week before the allegations broke, Sandusky was seen on campus in the weight room.

Paterno WAS Penn State, people didn't breathe unless he gave the say-so. If he wanted Sandusky gone and truly out of Penn State, he wouldn't have allowed him to have an office on campus. If he had said the word, Sandusky would have had his ass bounced from the university so fast his head would spin.

Paterno was all about protecting his legacy and the university. Sandusky was still molesting kids long after 2002 when McQueary caught him in the shower and Paterno found out about it. Paterno might have been able to put a stop to it had he spoken up.

As I said above, campus police generally have jurisdiction on college campuses.

I wasn't questioning you, just commenting in general, not directed towards anyone. And by police I meant people higher up than the campus police, even though campus police have jurisdiction.

I'm seeing a lot of Paterno deification today and it's making me a tad sick.I had to vent.

Oh I think not. The fucking pedo-enabling asshole deserves far far worse, like some of the treatment he allowed all those little boys to endure.

Seriously? I don't know the first fucking thing about American football, all I know is he knowingly aided and abetted a disgusting child abuser. What respect do I owe him?

I wonder if Sandusky will show up to the funeral.

Though I don't believe in fairy tales, If there's an afterlife with any kind of justice he's warming up hell for Sandusky.

I was at the Dallas airport last night, waiting for my flight back to Detroit (late, as usual, fuckers!). We walked by a TV and there was some poignant statement from Jerry Sandusky about Paterno. WHAT IN THE EVERLOVING FUCK!??

No it wasn't. In fact, a bullet is too quick a death for someone who supported a child rapist.

It's just sad that someone whose mission was supposed to be educating, coaching, and mentoring youth totally dropped the ball (no pun intended) when it came to the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY OF HIS LIFE TO HELP KIDS. (sorry for the caps)

Cancer sucks, I feel bad for his family and all that, but when you weigh football vs child welfare on the scales of life--if football is more important then you are truly a fucked up person.
