Goddamn people. In a sport like figure skating, you will probably be nursing an injury, if not sidelined with one. I'm willing to take a skaters word over that of an anonymous poster. People on Golden Skate think Sotnikova is faking her ankle injury. Fucking cunts.

She withdrew from the Cup of Russia.

I can't stand Golden Skate. What a bunch of smug, condescending asshats they are.

Yulia had a bad free skate. 1 fall and some missed jumps.

Are athletes required to attend medal ceremonies? Would it seem like bad sportsmanship or disrespect to the host nation if you didn't?

I read that she didn't realize that the medal ceremony was at the end. Because this is her first competition and all. And I like Lipnitskaya, but c'mon.

Also, Cup of China is on NBC right now for anyone hoping to catch it. Only been on about 10 minutes.

Watching the men on Cup of China. That was a really nasty crash that Hanyu had with Yan.

My first thought was that Hanyu might have cut his throat, because of what seemed to be blood.

There was a considerable amount of blood. He was gifted that silver medal, 'cause he flopped around on that ice like an epileptic walrus.

I believe Hanyu had 5 points in deductions. He appeared to split his chin, so I wonder if he didn't have to get stitches afterwards.

I hope Cup of Russia looks better in general.

Doing a quick drive by post:

That Hanyu and Han were allowed to skate is a fucking abomination. They weren't heroes, they were idiots. This type of thing only feeds into the sick, twisted culture of pushing through no matter the cost, where injuries are seen as a character flaws and illnesses as laziness. I've done a lot of stupid shit in my day and pretty much everyone I know has too. The culture of the sport, and I imagine many sports in general, is rotten. This wasn't even the Olympics, it was a stupid Grand Prix event. Head injuries are nothing to mess with, and there's no way the person with the head injury should be called upon to make the rational decision. Athletes are going to want to continue no matter what, it's part of the mindset, and it's the coach's job to prevent them from doing so when it's detrimental to their health. The ISU needs better protocols to deal with this type of thing, you simply cannot leave it up to the athletes when things this serious occur.

My mother compared Elizaveta Tuktamysheva to Bristol Palin. I want to cry. That has to be the biggest insult to a figure skater to date.

Pour one out for Fumie's competitive career.

Suguri retires from figure skating at 33

    9:30 pm, November 13, 2014

    The Yomiuri Shimbun

Fumie Suguri, who finished in fourth place in women’s figure skating at the 2006 Turin Olympics, announced her retirement from competition on Thursday.

The 33-year-old skater has led the sport in Japan since she became national champion for the first time at 16.

Though she earned four more national titles, Suguri finished fifth in her Olympic debut in Salt Lake City in 2002.

The following year, she became the first Japanese to claim victory at the Grand Prix finals.

“I’ve worked hard with the aim of competing in the Olympics one more time,” Suguri said during a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday. “However, I failed to win a berth at this season’s national championships, and I’ll be 37 at the time of the next Games [in 2018].

“These factors led me to decide that the time has come to call it quits.”

She said she is eyeing a new career as a choreographer.

Awww, she definitely loved the sport. I like skaters with longevity.

Ilinykh easily beat Katsalapov in the Cup of Russia short today. Bet Nikita's stewing over that one.
