I'm reviving this thread because US Nats is coming up this week, and I'm assuming that NBC will be showing at least some of it live. Predictions?

    My guesses:

    Men's: 1. Brown 2. Abbott 3. Aaron
    Women's: 1. Wagner 2. Gold 3. Cesario
    Dance: 1. Chock/Bates 2. Shibutanis 3. Hawayek/Baker
    Pairs: Cancelled because nobody cares.

I'm pessimistic and figure Jeremy will pull out a minor miracle and win gold.

I'd like to see Cesario win bronze, but I have low hopes. I kind of expect Polina to get propped up a bit.

You think Hawayek/Baker over Hubbell/Donohue this season?

I'm curious about the battle between Cesario/Hicks/Edmunds (and maybe Mirai) for bronze. Edmunds was given a poor score in her LP at NHK, which makes me think that the USFSA aren't really too fussed about her this season, but at the same time two clean programs would probably easily get her a medal.

Hawayek and Baker were given a lower score at NHK than I thought when I wrote the above post, but I reckon it's in the US's best interests to start promoting an early 2022 gold fave over a team whose ceiling is much lower.

I can so see Brown becoming somebody who always skates lights out at Nationals but then being underwhelming everywhere else.

Ugh, I hope Edmunds doesn't get the third spot. Little brat. I'm thinking it will be Hicks. I'm not on the Brown bandwagon, his programs this year are terrible and his technique is weak. I don't think he'll ever be a major player. I don't know what's going to happen with the men this year, they're all so scattered. I'm thinking Jeremy will manage a spot.

What was up with Johnny's hair? He can't get a decent coif to save his life.

I read that Jeremy's father passed away on the 8th from Parkinson's, so I'm not sure how that may affect him at Nats. Could prove too much, or it may push him into a 5th title.

Hmm, I hadn't heard of this. Isn't Dornbush's mother ill, also?

I can't see both Aaron and Dornbush finishing above Jeremy at nationals, but then again this is Jeremy Abbott we're discussing so who knows?

As a quick aside, I don't know if anyone followed this Medal Winner's Open pro competition they had in Japan over the weekend, but Plush tightened up the spine screws and managed to beat Oda, Buttle, Weir, Lysacek, and Honda. His PCS were higher than everyone's except Buttle's.

I seriously respect the hell out of Plush. I mean, I hate his skating, but he's so insistent on skating against all odds and so consistent that I've gone the other way and love him and his busted skating, awful footwork, cocky persona and everything else. His insanity is endearing.

    ^^^Don't forget his mullet!
But he does put the "sport" in skating. And I'm not a fan of his skating at all either, Rusalka.

Yes, I'm really drawn to more aesthetically pleasing types like Lambiel and Takahashi. I fall really strongly on the artistry side of the artistry/athleticism divide, but damn it, I love Plushenko for how wrong everything is. Man has no fucks to give, he keeps showing up and throwing down, no intent to bend to the requirements of COP, just solid, pure technique. I'm in awe of him. I mean, he never falls and never has meltdowns. That's amazing. He's like the anti-Abbott.

Here's Plush's free skate. He even throws in a little stage hamming at the end.
