oh wow, that's a shame.
NFL legend Junior Seau was found dead in his home in Oceanside, CA ... and a law enforcement source at the scene tells us cops believe he shot himself.
Seau was 43-years-old ... and leaves behind 3 kids and an ex-wife.
Cops are currently at Seau's home -- located in San Diego County -- and were seen talking with a man who was inside the house and appeared distraught.
We're told Seau sent text messages to his ex-wife and 3 kids yesterday saying, "Love you." We're told they all responded and didn't suspect anything was wrong. We're told he last saw his kids 3 weeks ago.
Sources close to Seau tell us family members didn't notice any signs of depression in recent weeks.

All of God's children are not beautiful. Most of God's children are, in fact, barely presentable.
Wow, that's way out of left field. I know he had issues, but damn. RIP dude, you were one of the football greats.

Makes me think he really was trying to off himself when he drove his vehicle off a cliff year before last. He claimed he'd fallen asleep at the wheel.
I hate to read this. RIP.
It seems like he was already on bonus time. In 2010, he drove his SUV off a 100-foot cliff, and landed at the bottom on a beach, without a scratch on him.
ETA: I guess I posted at the same time as Laurent. In that 2010 incident, I think he was returning from the police station after being arrested for felony spousal assault with injury. Reading a little more about him, it seems like he was an angry, depressed guy who finally succumbed.
I wonder if he was suffering from CTE like Duerson.

Wow I'm shocked to read this. RIP.
I am going to come and burn the fucking house down... but you will blow me first."
Sad, but had he no thought for his children? That poor family.

Very sad, respected him a ton as a player. Clearly he had some pretty serious issues, so sorry he didn't seek help, or if he did, that it wasn't more successful. RIP
I was thinking about that, too. A lot of people seem to be wondering. But it sounds like he was kind of a depressed guy in general. In his Wiki entry it quotes that he had gone from a 4-sport all-star in high-school to a guy who couldn't even play his first year at USC because of his 690 SAT score. And that many of the people in his Samoan-American community were gleeful about it. He made it sound like depression and helplessness was endemic in his community or something - despite the fact that Samoans are WAY overrepresented (as a percentage of the population) in the NFL.
this is a big deal here in San Diego. all of the local channels are preempting everything to cover this. he was well respected and liked. His restaurant is awesome. He did a LOT for childrens charities. RIP buddy.

I've always loved Seau, even when he was kicking the Chiefs' ass.

If concussions have anything to do with it, it will continue the huge spotlight on this issue. The NFL has put on a good face but there's a lot more work to be done. The stats regarding athletes with two or more concussions are fairly startling.
