US Tennis Open begins on Monday, Aug 31 - predictions?

I can only hope Rafa makes it through the opening rounds - he's playing Gasquet on Tuesday (I think). I suppose this is another one for Federer, but I'd love to see Any Murray take it.

I wouldn't be taking much of a gamble to guess that Federer will win. I think he probably will, but there could definitely be an upset.
Nobody has won 6 consecutive US opens for a reason, coz it's damn hard!

I don't think Nadal will get to the final, or even semis. I don't think he's totally 'back' yet.

I am hoping my Rafa. But I just think this surface is to much for his knees.
It will be for sure someone in the top 4 ...Djoker. Murray Fed or Rafa. Don't think Roddick will because of his hip.

I can't wait !

I haven't watched tennis since the 1980's Swedes.

But now I seriously want to rub up against Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo who I'm sure we won't see after today.

Amen. I also hate Fernando Alonso the same way, both of them are such douches - must be something in the water over there in Spain. I really want to see Nadal defeated early.

Well, the women's game has gone right down the drain, but the men's game is wild and thriving.

actually spanish players are usually really nice and likeable - ferrero is pretty sweet and alex corretja was voted most likeable/'fair play' tennis player pretty much every year for as long as his career lasted.

women's tennis was never half as interesting as the men's (i did used to love watching martina hingis though - one of the smartest games ever). and the men don't grunt annoyingly.

i used to love the WTA back in the days of Chris Evert/Martina Navratilova/Billie Jean. All class acts.

The shrieking in womens tennis is just crazy, and really makes it unwatchable. i HATE muting my TV because sometimes the announcers have something interesting to say. (except Pam Shriver).

Mens tennis is far more interesting. The grunting, for whatever reason doesnt bother me.

Also, i wonder if Venus is going to last long since she's now nursing a bad knee? I like Venus.

I think the excessive and super-irritating screeching that women do now amounts to cheating. How any opponant can focus on their game with that going on is beyond me. It should be banned.

The WTA sucks so bad right now, the shrieking isn't helping their case.
that really loud 16 yr old Melissa LArcher DeBrito won today. ugh.

there really isnt a female worth getting excited about except Kim Clijsters.
