Well, I'm just worried about hiding it during the healing period...I'm hoping that the job itself will be so subtle that people will think I changed my hair or lost weight or something else...you know, something's different about her but I'm not sure what. Maybe I'll change my hair color at the same time to detract from the nose.

Is the swelling going to occur that initial first week that I'm hiding out? Or beyond that?

probably beyond. final results don't come in until a year.

don't get fooled by extreme makeover. they're on a lot of steroids and a shitload of makeup to look "good" for that one reveal day.

There's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of! So you had your nose fixed because you didn't like it. Big Deal. Nobody is going to judge you for that and if they do, so what? If you broke your nose in a car accident or during a hockey game you wouldn't feel the need to 'hide away'. Wear your splint with pride girl! My neighbourhood is Plastic Surgery Central and the local supermarkets are full of women who've had a recent PS. They don't give a shit.

Really, just for them messing with the tip? I am happy with the bridge and width of my nose, it's just got too much cartilege in the tip and the cartilege is misshaped...I kind of have a lump on one side and there is a dividing line down the middle of the tip.

SVZ, have you had a nose job?

Yeah, most people won't care seriously. Hiding out is just going to make yourself worried and stress is going to impede your healing.

No, but I've done a lot of research on it as I want to become a plastic surgeon.

Osteotomies will cause the most swelling, however you're still going to be bruised. It's like getting punched from the inside out.

Also choose a good doctor, routine "easy" nosejobs are the ones where people are most dissatisfied with. And you're looking to conceal a bifid tip (The dividing line)

I can always blame it on one of the kids! My son almost broke my nose the other week! I have had my nose slammed into more times than I can count since I've had kids.

SVZ, what's an osteo..whatcha call it? Is that what I want?

You won't be able to hide it. My best friend had one, her face was black and blue for weeks and it took months for all the swelling to go away. She had something done to her tip too and it was numb for almost a year. If you are only doing the tip and not breaking the bone, the healing process may be much faster.

Osteotomy is where they break the bone, so you probably won't get it. However you never know the surgeon may just do one on you which is why you really need to find a good doctor who's a shitty salesmen.

Extreme makeover has made a lot of people more aware of plastic surgery and allowed more people to accept it, but they really do glamorize it and downplay the risk.

I remember a guy showed up at graduation who had just had one...all he had was a piece of white tape across the top of his nose!

people heal differently and you don't know what sort of procedure he got. That's like buying a new mansion, a new car and a new jet and then planning a night at the casino.

You should definetly do more research on the procedure: http://rhinoplasty4you.com/research_rhinoplasty.htm <- this is a pretty good site

That's right! Sounds like you have a very qualified doc, I'm sure you will be thrilled. I had mine done a couple years ago and I'm very pleased. It didn't turn out exactly how I'd hoped because of certain issues that can happen during healing, but looking at the before and afters, it's soooo much better. For some reason, I never got a copy of my pics to take home, or I'd post them. Good luck and get some frozen peas!

I just read the posts about swelling, and my swelling hit its peak on day 3. I woke up and my eyes were swollen completely shut! I did have an open procedure with the bridge broken and hump shaved off, so there was some pretty good trauma. I also had 2 black eyes for about 2 1/2 weeks. By the last week, I just looked like a football player with those black streaks under my eyes. I met my current boyfriend during this time period and he thought I looked cute with my black eyes! For me, there was NO hiding it. I didn't really try though. I went out to dinner, took my girls to dance class, did everything like normal with my black eyes and big ol' cast on my nose. I'm sure I got some stares, but I didn't really care. Funny, I used to have a nosy neighbor who was always ringing my damn doorbell, but I did manage to hide from her those first few weeks.

No one who didn't already know has ever commented or asked about my nose. Even some of my family members say I wasted my money cause it looks the same. I definitely see a big difference though.

Good Luck! From the people I've know who have had them, their healing time was a couple of weeks. Minimal bruising around the eyes (it disappeared fast for them). They had bumps smooths and tips shortened. Their new noses really fit their face. Overall, I think it took a full six months for the nose to relax and become their new nose. I have no memory of what they used to look like, but it's fun to look back at old pics.

I've always liked Catherine Deneuve's nose. I wonder if she had it done? SVZ - if she did, how do you get those little "points" on the tip? I like them
