I think that they're only half sisters, and Melissa is adopted. I've always hated Melissa's new nose. It's the one feature that always creeps me out about her. She should have left it alone.

They are half sisters. Sara and her partner have a 3 year old boy via donor.

Nope. Not only was and is she fug on the outside, from the few interviews with her (as an adult) that I saw, she came across as totally full of herself, too.

Okay, I researched how they are related, and this is it:
Sara's parents are Barbara Crane and Harold Abeles. Her mother adopted two children (Melissa and Jonathan Gilbert) during her first marriage to Paul Gilbert. Sara Rebecca Abeles changed her last name to Gilbert when she started acting.
So this would make Sara and Melissa half-sisters because they have different fathers, but the same mother. Obviously they are not half-sisters blood wise, but marriage wise.
This info could be wrong though, but is what I found!

7th February, 2007 After receiving an email from another fan I needed to confirm the rumor. Today it was confirmed from a reliable source that Sara is pregnant. Although this is her first pregnacy, this will be her second child. She already has a son with her partner Allison Adler.
