Favourite holiday drink
Eggnog is too sweet for me, but I do love this easy punch. It makes the house smell great, too.
Apple/Cranberry Punch
Pour a healthy amount of apple cider (not juice) into a deep pot. Add half as much cranberry juice.
Make a bouquet garni of about 5-6 whole cloves, 2-3 star anise and 7-8 whole allspice and throw into pot. Add a couple of good-sized cinnamon sticks.
Slice a lemon and an orange and throw slices in pot.
Heat slowly -- it smells incredible. When hot, ladle into cup or glass and pour in a shot of brandy or vodka (optional). Heaven.

Re: Favourite holiday drink
Spiked Hot Chocolate
1 quart milk (skim, 2 percent or whole) or half-and-half
6 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped (recommended: Scharffenberger)
9 ounces peppermint schnapps
Whipped cream, for serving
6 peppermint sticks, for serving
Heat 1 cup of the milk in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add chocolate, stirring constantly, until melted. When the chocolate has melted, increase heat to medium and add the remainder of the milk while whisking rapidly. Do not allow to boil.
Serve hot chocolate with as much schanpps as you need and a dollop of whipped cream. Add a peppermint stick to stir.
And for the lazy (such as myself sometimes) just use the packet, mix in milk and the schnapps. After enough of these, you won't know the difference anyways!!!!
(Excuse the double post---wanted to seperate the recipes)
*edited b/c I copied all the info from my on-line recipe box, not just the necessary stuff.

Re: Favourite holiday drink
Damn, that hot chocolate recipe sounds good. Might have to make that. Sometimes I do the old hot cocoa and brandy thing, but this sounds way better.

It is soooo good. I want one right now. But considering I'm at work and have been on the internet all day with you guys----drinking might be the final straw and I'll be out of a job.
But you should definitely try it PB.
