Default How to make a pot of tea

This is how my mother taught me:

    - Heat kettle to boiling point.
    - Pour a small amount of water in teapot and slosh around. Pour out. (This is to warm up the pot.)
    - Put in teabags OR better yet, loose tea in a teaball, and pour hot water directly on top.
    - Cover pot and let steep to taste (at least 3 minutes).
    - Pour milk (if desired) in cup, then add freshly brewed tea.
    - Drink.

My mother used to heat the tea cups with a little boiled water too, but that's optional. Making tea in a cup is barbaric to true tea drinkers, but I do it, too.

Does this work with ALL tea? Is green tea different? And do you heat the milk up,too-or does the tea heat it enough?
Do you use Earl Grey tea?

This is for all kinds of tea, but I don't add milk to herbal tea myself. No, you don't have to heat up the milk. But if you put it in the bottom, it won't cool down the tea quite as much. I like my tea hot.

Best way to make tea! I don't make it in a pot as often as I should, but I will admit I just can't bring myself to do "place cup with water and teabag already in it, in the microwave"

At the very least I have to boil the kettle.

I use a french coffee press. I fill the coffee press with fresh flowers, herbs and what not. Boil water and then pour into coffee press. Never tried making it in the microwave. Sounds barbaric.

Warming the pot is essential before you add the tea (bags or loose) and then the water which should have just boiled. I drink a lot of tea (black, green, herbal, fruit) and I drink it without milk these days because it tastes better IMO but if you are adding milk then it shouldn't be pre-warmed. Yuk.

Anyone who makes a mug of tea in the microwave should be shot at dawn!

Lol! Knock it off. I like the coffee press cause' you can make your own combination of tea. I make a tea for my skin and it involves a bunch of dried flowers and herbs. As for the toe nails they are flawless.

I remember the first time I went to the South and I ordered tea. The waitress said "Hot tea?" and I was, is there any other kind lol.

The milk goes in the cup after the tea. MIF = terribly non-U.

Whatever you do, don't heat the milk for tea, and I can't bear full fat milk in it either, makes me gag. You take the pot to the kettle, not the kettle to the pot, as the water has to be boiling, not simply boiled. And buy decent tea - all you seem to be able to get in some parts of the world is that Lipton's stuff. Tea bags are fine though as long as you buy good ones.
