I've got some great frozen organic cherries from my friend's orchard -- I'm going to use those. I tend to find the canned stuff a bit too sweet, especially if I ice the cake.

I have a recipe for sour cream chocolate cake that I might try, too. I'm going to decorate the cake with cherries as well. Thanks, Edie! It's gonna be so pretty and tasty.

this reminded me of a cake my grandmother made that she was going to throw away but is now a favorite. Just a plain butter cake mix with a can of mandarin oranges thrown in before baking. It is excellent

Am I the only person who actually makes their own cakes from scratch? Not that I make that many, lol. It's really easy and tastes so much better, IMO. I'm curious.

Shedevilang you might like the Cajun smash cake that I make, and it's dead easy.

No, not really. It's more nutty and caramelly. I posted it in the recipe section ages ago. I love pineapple upside down cake though.

How can you tell I'm dieting? I'm obsessing over cake!

I make all my baking from scratch, and the majority of my cooking is from scratch, with things rarely coming from a can.

No offense or anything, but I much prefer scratch stuff, too, because the stuff from mixes taste overly sweet and sometimes really artificial.
