Lani you have the greatest ideas for recipes between this salad and your protein snacks, really great ideas. I will try them soon I just need to go grocery shopping.
I'm inspired a lot by whats around me and in OZ we have a really strong asian infulence and always have. So Lime, Ginger and Chilli have always been a staple in the house, and in my diet. I even brew Green Tea with Ginger, Coffee with Chilli Powder and put Lime into just about everything. I ahve another recipie that has thoes flavours, a light Thai Banana salad.
---
This one serves 4 people.
Ingedients:
3 bananas, sliced, 300g
1 packet mixed salad leaves
1 cucumber
handfull snow pea sprouts
handfull mint leaves
handfull coriander leaves
1/4 cup roasted peanuts
2 green chillies, finely sliced
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1 teaspoon fish sauce
2 tablespoons lime or lemon juice
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/4 cup of lite coconut milk (I usually use less then that as I discovered I really dont like coconut all that much)
Dressing: Place chillies, ginger, fish sauce, lemon juice, sugar and coconut milk in a jar with a firm fitting lid. Shake until combined.
combine the rest in a bowl and then pour dressing over the top.
You can use some shreaded precooked BBQ chicken or turkey in this if you want. For a change I actually soak and then cook diced tofu in what is meant to be the dressing first and use that to top everything.

yeah and they all seem quite healthy too. mmm this sounds ridiculously good. do you think the fish sauce is mega necessary, i'm not that keen on fish...
I dont think its nessisary I just use it to get a hit of omega oils. You could use sesame oil or something of the like and it should taste just as well.
Fish sauce doesn't taste fishy if that is what is putting you off. It's adding a bit of saltiness. I tend to substitute a vegetarian oyster sauce in Thai recipes that call for it.Originally Posted by misskris

yeah the fishy taste is what puts me off of the sounds of it. in that case maybe i'll pick some up. i love raw fish i just somehow can't stand the smell of fish/pungent fishy taste. thanks ladies, this is has been super helpful regarding the potential substitutions and maybe even just using the fish sauce itself. i can hardly wait! mmm.
