I've always thought the real issue with this is some girls are simply built small or don't produce enough natural lubrication (not talking about blood here) so sticking anything up there is difficult and uncomfortable.

And Tati, you lucky girl! As someone who isn't interested in kids, that would be the only upside to pregnancy for me.

I use both. It depends on the situation, the day, etc.

I tried the cup about 10 years ago. It was called Femcup then. I wasn't crazy about it.

Tampons only. O.B and Playtex Sport
    Pads are gross.
GorgeousRetrooo.x I used tampons when I was a virgin. They don't break the hymen.

I use pads primarily - a few super duper plus tampons on the first day only.

I am very careful with tampon use - my sister had toxic shock syndrome in her late teens and although she thankfully is absolutely fine - I use them only when I have to and I change them frequently. I never, ever sleep with a tampon.

She moved on to the cup and swears by them. I find them a tad messy.

Gross. Was she older or just more environmentally/cost concious? I can't imagine. Well actually I can, my mom used cloth diapers for a while for my two sisters and as I was old enough to help out, I remember the joy of washing them out. Makes me gag even now.

^This was just a few years ago. Then she was just around 33. I don't know why she chose to wear them. I asked her for a tampon and she said "Sorry, I use fabric".
Yeah, I know someone who used cloth diapers and I had to help her wash them out. Worst part about it, is that the dirty diapers were stored in a bin so when it was opened, it smelled like amonina and poo.

I've used several kinds, but my favorite is playtex gentle glide. A close second is tampax pearl.

I used pads for the first time recently - after giving birth. Of course, it wasn't for the normal blood flow you have with your period, However, I have to say - I hated them! I felt dirty all of the time, even towards the end when things were getting "better".

I had always worn tampons before giving birth and have again since. I am very lucky to have been blessed with a period that usually only lasts 4 days and I don't have heavy flow. I've never had problems with tampons unless I've left them up there too long and they get too full (user error).

I am curious about the diva cup though. Would save a ton of $$ and is better for the environment.

I hate pads but I don't have a choice. I've tried many different brands and sizes of tampon and they just make things worse for me. Aside from being very uncomfortable they also triple the amount of cramping and pain I get, which is usually fairly nasty anyway. However, these days it's rare for me to have a heavy period and generally it is so light that I can use those ultra thin panty liners instead of a full pad except for at night, when I want a little extra protection from night time wriggling and slippage.

Thank goodness pads are getting thinner, though. I remember when I first started having to use them, the damn things were like cotton wool bricks.

^Do the thin pads hold more fluid than they used to?
