Re: Tampons versus Sanitary towels
During the day I just use tampons, but at night I have to use both. I have been having really really heavy periods the past few months.
The cup things seem neat, but I wonder if they would work on really heavy flows-I am talking on the first day of period-an hour 1/2 tops with a super plus tampon...

I prefer tampons but since I lose very little blood I can't use several ones in a row because it dries me up and it hurts
Last month I tried a SoftTampon for the first time, it's great! It's a little artificial sponge, much more softer than a tampon
http://www.gynotex.com/?lang=en&page=2
http://www.soft-tampons.de/ (the brand I tried)
I had never heard of the DivaCup before... I just read about it after a quick Google research and ordered one, I think it's the right thing for me, thanks sistas

Re: Tampons versus Sanitary towels
After my friend recovered from TSS, I will not wear tampons anymore. If I am on it in summer, I just skip swimming.
Plus I am still recovering over seeing a girl lose her tampon at the local concrete pond.

I have an extremely heavy flow for like 3 days of my period. The mooncup works a bit better than the diva cup for me on those days, but as long as I empty it often enough, I'm fine. I do use a pad as a backup during the worst of it. But I'd have to do that with a tampon anyway - even the super heavy duty ones.

Re: Tampons versus Sanitary towels
Those o.b. tampons w/out applicators are the best. I hate pads; they're so messy and feel like a diaper. I like the thin liners, though, for heavy days it's one of those + tampon, just in case.

Re: Tampons versus Sanitary towels
I can't use tampons without serious pain. I've tried so many brands because I could't stand the thought of having a pad on but the tampon was never enough so I'd still have to wear the pad and in high school is was worse because I didn't always have time to run to the bathroom between classes. I finally gave up, it took less time to change a pad than to fight with a tampon (and yes it is a fight for me and dreadfully uncomfy) and deal with pad. At least now they have ultra thins with wings and that Kotex clean strip in the middle. So much better than that big old pillow kind I had to use in the 6th grade!

LOL, it feels weird ^^ quoting myself, but I thought I'd write an update about that. I got my Diva Cup a few weeks ago and now after 3 days of non-stop use I can say it's one of the greatest inventions of all time
You get rid of the smell, you get rid of the spots (well, if you lose little blood like I do), it doesn't dry the mucus membrane, and you have nothing solid to throw away in the waste. It's great!

Re: Tampons versus Sanitary towels
^^ Haha, I love your comments when it comes to 'female' subjects. What was it you referred to the vagina as agian? Some kind of devilish venus flytrap or something??

Where do you buy these crazy devices?? I really like the idea of a soft tampon. The Diva Cup / Moon Cup, etc look frickin HUGE!!!!! How do you get that in there????
ETA: never mind... I googled it. These concepts are so new to me... I didn't even think to roll it up.
Moocow, you said you use both... which do you prefer??? Which is better for a high activity level? One's disposable, right?
|
The Diva Cup/ Moon Cup are both reusable, very similar. I prefer the mooncup slightly. It has to do with the ridges, mostly.
The one that's disposable is the Instead: www.softcup.com
I like the instead for light days and certain activites I did discover recently that when you're doing really intense nookie, that it can be a bit irritating
And Barbara, glad it worked for you!

Re: Tampons versus Sanitary towels
Thanks moocow
Frank: I sometimes feel I'm living sometime in the Middle Ages, I had to order it from a private person who does retail for Switzerland, usually this kind of stuff comes in Germany first, and then little by little we get colonized Actually I wonder when I'll see those for the first time in drug stores or supermarkets here, it may be years from now
