The other good news is that if it works for you, and it usually does, you take it for 6 months or whatever and then you don't need to take it any more. It's not an ongoing thing and 8 out of 10 patients are permanently cured.

Yes, birth defects are a risk but if you're not planning on getting preggo it's not a problem. In theory you only need to take it for a maximum of 6 months so there's plenty of time to have babies later.

i was about to say this . . . not sure how long after your treatment you have to be on bc, though.

this stuff is way toxic and has terrible side affects. i realize that the drug works well for the people who need it but i'm surprised the FDA still allows its use.

Believe me, if you are cursed with disfiguring acne that makes your face look like a pizza you will take ANYTHING to make it go away. It's prescribed here very much as a last resort if all other treatments fail and the docs give very clear warnings about the risk of birth defects, etc. However, since the vast majority of patients are teenagers then (hopefully) pregnancy isn't an issue. My daughter also experienced the common side effect of dry lips - nothing lip balm couldn't fix, and sometimes her eyes needed drops but otherwise she was fine. To see her confidence soar as her face cleared up was absolutely worth it.

Thats a big deal! & if you're worried about the other you can always get her an implant... but I'm sure tht she'll be fine.

She's almost 17 and has had acne for the last 6 years dammit. We hoped it would clear up once the puberty hormones settled down but no such luck. Anyway, she took a 6 month course of Roaccutane, the acne vanished (and I mean TOTALLY vanished), she's much happier and confident so it's all good.
