I just threw out all my Sally Hansen, Suave, Oral-B, Softsoap and L'Oreal products. And more will follow.

Use up what you have-no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater! Just do not repurchase. Are we shure about all of these??

This breaks my heart. Why haven't they learned enough to stop this? If other companies can go cruelty free, why can't these? I guess it's just cheaper to hurt animals than to use alternate methods. It hurts that I won't be able to repurchase some of my favorite cosmetics anymore.

Not to be a doggie downer, but try and switch to synthetic makeup brushes when it's time to re-purchase. They don't just trim the hair

I thought that L'Oreal had recently given up animal testing or that they are pledging to do so.

Some great companies do not test on animals:

    Arbonne
    Aveda
    Bare Escentuals
    Bath and Body Works
    Bobbi Brown
    Bumble and Bumble
    Caswell Massey
    Clarins
    Clinique
    Conair
    Crabtree and Evelyn
    Dermalogica
Estee Lauder (they gave it up)
    Hard Candy
    Kiehls
    MAC
Mary Kay (they gave it up)
    Murad
    OPI
    Prescriptives
    Rene Furterer

and the obvious, Body Shop and Origins

I'm curious, one of my high school bio teachers was emphatic that all mascaras are tested on animals. I notice quite a few lines on the list of companies that don't test on animals that have mascaras within their product line. So, bio teacher wrong (which is highly likely as that is a huge generalization), or mascara not included in the "does not test on animals" statement?

There are definitely companies that have mascara and they don't test it on animals. I'm guessing that once upon a time, all mascaras were tested on animals and some of those formulas are still being used. So, even if a company doesn't test on animals, they may use ingredients that once were tested on animals. Confusing.

Many companies use the same ingredients as previously patented (yet expired) in their own makeup formulas. Because they were ALREADY tested by one company, they do not have to retest to meet safety standards.

Oh, and for the record, Estee Lauder STARTED Clinique, which is why they are both an.test free.

Estee Lauder has a few other companies as well. I thought they owned MAC now.
