Default New (ish) Estée Lauder Perfume "Modern Muse"

My skin turns most perfumes to Eau de Catpiss but this one survives reasonably intact. It smells great for the first hour but then morphs into a powdery generic blah leaving an undertone I really don't like. Oh well, back to the perfumery... There must be something out there apart from my old reliable and beloved Chanel No.19. If they ever stop making that Im doomed.

I dream of a world without perfume. After not wearing it for so long, now when I come within metres of even the finest perfume all I get is a waft of chemicals. It's like someone's tipped metho on my tongue.

Sorry to bum out your thread, carry on.

No worries my commie friend. Perfume is very bourgeois.

I got a sample of this from The Bay while I was in Banff on vacation - everything Estee Lauder smells like a grandma to me. This is no exception.

A*O, have you ever tried Clinique's Aromatics Elixir? I have a friend who wears Chanel No 19 and she also loves the Clinique. I think they're both green scents.

Estee Lauder perfume always reminds me of Youth Dew!! They did have a perfume out several years ago that I liked. Can't remember the name.

I stopped wearing perfume after I had a baby. I didn't want her to smell like perfume or cologne, so my SO and I just stopped wearing it. It wasn't on purpose, we both just stopped and thought the same way. I just went back to wearing a little bit now. I've been wearing Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana for years. It's light and I like it.

You are all right - Estée Lauder perfumes all end up smelling the same after an hour or so with that distinctive powdery/granny vibe. I can usually spot them a mile off and foolishly hoped this one really would be different. My golden rule now is "French only" and this proves it.

I have tried Clinique (AKA Estée Lauder BTW) Aromatics and find it a bit too spicy/musky. I don't like musk anyway which magically turns into Eau de Polecat on me.

I love, love, love Light Blue. Not only is it light but it lasts really well.

Mrs. Mohandas wears little to no perfume most of the time, but when she does wear something, I think it's either Coco Chanel or Chanel No. 9. Or is it 19? I can't keep track of all these numbers.

I have a longtime love of Lauder's Cinnabar. I've worn it on and off since high school. It's a winter only scent, as it's heavy. But it's gorgeous. A woman's perfume, not like these unisex edt's that are so popular now.

A*O I remember you professed your love for A Scent by issey miyake. I also love it. But was saddened to learn recent that it's being discontinued...
That and Prada's infusion d'homme are the only ones I wear so I feel like I too will soon be on a perfume quest.

I tried Modern Muse the other day and didn't like it. The usual hype but I can't see what's so special.

a*o, have you tried chanel's bel respiro? i was recently gifted with another 5ml bottle. it's part of the les exclusifs range and the only chanel perfume i've ever truly loved. i made my first mini bottle last for years because i refuse to pay the 160 dollars it costs but you should give it a try. especially if you love chanel no 19 as this is another 'green'.
it's absolutely heavenly, light and green and floral but more complex than you think at first whiff, with leather and earthiness to it.
i've also decided to fork up the cash and buy it for myself as a christmas gift.
