Default Liberal leader Stephane Dion makes embarrassing gaffe on TV

With 5 days to go before the Canadian Federal election, Liberal Leader Stephane Dion may have blow it, and cost himself his job, with an embarrassing gaff while being interviewed.

    Pardonnez-moi??

The question had to be repeated three times. Now in fairness to Mr Dion, CTV promised not to air the clip, but then decided it was too good to keep to themselves. Also the interview mixes his past and present tenses - "What would you do if you had been PM". It seems to be the tenses that Dion is unsure about, as he asks for the question to be repeated.

On the other hand, had Sarah Palin said this, Tina Fey would've gleefully fried her ass. So should Dion get a pass? Has he blown it? Did CTV play dirty pool??

it's called "english is not his first language"

Sarah Palin doesn't have that excuse. Her excuse is that she's retarded.

english doesn't conjugate the same way french does so i can understand the confusion.

his english has never been strong, but it doesn't affect how he will lead.

definitely a language error. if there's one thing dion isn't, it's dumb. quite the opposite. he just isn't very charismatic.

At least his english is a little more understandable than jean chretien. Case in point:

To any non-Canadians: Don't feel stupid, we don't know what the fuck he's saying anymore than you do.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Zombie Trudeau for PM.

Compared to the shit we're fed in the U.S. elections, I don't find this very disturbing at all. He actually comes off as human.

On a side note: Canada has politics? l

My my, didn't we all just dip our tongues in some acid today.

Hey, that's what Charles Rangel said about her, "you gotta be kind to the disabled".

Seriously, were there enough tenses in that sentence - so he needed a translator - let's test Harper's French with something really tough (or even medium tough).

    Default Communications Breakdown

Now it's a moot point, and Dion will be looking for a new job (and a new shirt to replace the one with all the puncture holes in the back) on Monday. That's if Joe Volpe is speaking for the rest of the party ("Go while you got some dignity") - or only the 'mobbed up' wing. If he's any relation to the Volpe who kicked a CBC reporter in the groin, during an investigative documentary on organized crime made many years ago (Either "Connections" or "the 5th Estate") - I'd be inclined to go while the knife in the back is still figurative!!

I think the most frustrating thing for Dion is that after getting slammed about the economy from coast to coast ("No answer, no plan"), it now seems that Harper is "adopting" (stealing??) a 6 point plan from Dion's campaign. No wonder he's refused to leave the house for a couple of days. Like they says "Isn't it a shame no one ever warned the boy it's vicious game".

BTW even the best of them can have an occassional communications breakdown -

Alas - it was a 'read my lips' and not my mind moment!

dion was ineffective. boohoo for him. He let himself be steamrolled by harper DURING the election, and was as invisible as dick cheney BEFORE it.

So really, wahh. Get someone in there with some balls and charisma.
