Default Is the world gonna end on Wednesday?

The Large Hadron Collider will be turned on Wednesday. Built to recreate underground the conditions of the early universe, just a trillionth of a second after the Big Bang, most Scientists say it will unlock many of the gaps in our knowledge of physics ... but a few have warned it will create a black hole that will destroy the Earth!

So live these next coupla days like they are your last ... cause they just might be! (I doubt it tho )

check it out - looks scary enough...

Read all about it:

Large Hadron Collider - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All eyes on collider as it comes to life - The Boston Globe
Fear of black hole machine triggers threats to researchers
The World will end next Wednesday. « Can’t Afford To Die…
Bid to stop Large Hadron Collider fails but EU, US suits move forward | ZDNet Government | ZDNet.com

This one thing kind creeps me out about the whole deal...

Nostradamus 9 44

"All should leave Geneva.
Saturn turns from gold to iron.
The contrary positive ray will exterminate everything.
There will be signs in the sky before this."

There's a lengthy vid here that discusses this if anyone is interested - the LHC is outside Geneva:

YouTube - Nostradamus Prophecy, CERN Black Hole eating Earth Doomsday

SCARY!

Good luck everybody - take a sec to say "I love you" to those you do Tues. night just in case!

Just in case anyone thinks I'm being serious about the world ending:

Quote:
One reason the LHC has gotten a lot of press recently is that word started to get around that it was technically possible that when the device turned on for the first time, it could create miniature black holes. You hear the word “black hole” and you immediately think end of the world, but any black hole the LHC could create would likely be so small and destroy itself instantaneously that no one would ever notice it.
The likelihood of the LHC creating a stable black hole that could destroy the world is 10 to the negative 25th power, according to Cosmic Variance’s list. For some perspective, the likelihood of finding God is 10 to the negative 20th power, according to the same list.
The Large Hadron Collider was tested this weekend and a black hole hasn’t destroyed the Earth…yet » VentureBeat

This thing has been creeping me out quite a bit for the past few days. I'm not sure why - I'm not exactly the type to pay attention to Doomsday prophecies and wear tinfoil hats or anything. I suspect because several of my friends are physicists and I've seen what they're like... I wouldn't trust them with the safety of my dogs, let alone the whole planet.

Apparently the actual collisions won't start until about October, though. So we still have a few weeks left.

This is why we need science in schools.

I had plenty of science in my (Australian) school! Quantum theory isn't real science, anyway. It's a well-financed guessing game - which is what makes me nervous. "Erm, ok, imagine that there's a cat in a box with some poison. You don't know if it's alive or dead, so it's both. At the same time. Yep. Like John McCain."

Don't even get me started on string theory...

katerpillar is right ... I took a whole lot of science in school also, and the only slight fear I have is that they are really screwing with the unknown, which is amazing and exciting - but at the same time...
