I moved to Atlanta from San Francisco in early 1999 and was (pleasantly) shocked that gas was only $.79 a gallon. My gas tank was filled with 10 bucks. Now, I have to pay $52 to fill my tank.

Cry me a river. In Australia we pay the equivalent of just over US$6 per gallon, higher in rural areas and for premium unleaded. Europeans pay even more. High prices are here to stay.

When I started driving it was just over $1./gallon in California and I could fill up my little 83 Chevy Chevette (you're all jellus I know)
for between 10 and 15 dollars. *sigh*

I remember in late 70's (I was about 8 or nine - you do the math) my brothers wanted to drive 10 miles or so to the local state park. They had no gas money. I gave them all my change which was about 50 or 60 cents. They got some gas and we spent the day at the park. 50 cents won't even buy you a cup of coffee anymore.

The cheapest I remember seeing gas (when I started paying attention to that sort of stuff) was $1.25... This was probably in the very late 90s. Funny how that seemed expensive at the time. _

Gas was about $1 a gallon when I started to drive in 1988....

I had a Volvo, and I could fill the tank for less than $20 bucks, and drive it all week on one tank

I remember when prices went up over $1 a gallon during the first Gulf War. I was really upset. Back then I could fill mycar for less than $10. Now it's between $50 and $55.

I remember that vividly. I think it was the summer of '78. It was such a pain spending a few days week with my mother and the sibs in a hot car that summer in those dang gas lines.

I remember in the 90's in north Florida, if we ever were near the Georgia state line, we'd cross and fill up on 99 cent/gallon gas.
