Ethiopia declares war on Somalia

Ethiopia declared war on the Islamists in neighboring Somalia who want to rule according to the Koran, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said Sunday.

"Our defense force has been forced to enter a war to defend (against) the attacks from extremists and anti-Ethiopian forces and to protect the sovereignty of the land," Meles said in a television address just hours after his country launched fighter jets and artillery against Islamic militants.

Ethiopia backs Somalia's fragile government, which has been losing ground to the Islamists for months.

If the US could attack Iraq, why can't some Islamists attack Somalia? I don't want to justify these Islamists, but the world has clear double standards.............

I don't understand this entering a war to defend logic... Surely you can just defend without going to war, no? It sounds like retaliate before you get attacked.

well they do have their priorities..weapons come before feeding starving people...you should know that! And of course as you yourself have mentioned on this forum before (I believe)... most of the starvation is not due to a lack of food..but to interruptions in transportation systems and such due to ..what else? wars and insurrections.
