Gay athletes being denied entry into Canada due to being.. well, gay?

OTTAWA -- Liberal MPs are accusing the Conservative government of denying Canadian visitor visas to athletes from around the globe because they're gay.

Quebec MP Raymonde Folco said some applicants have been flatly denied entry and another 250 international participants have been waiting months for word on applications to attend the July 29-Aug. 5 Outgames sports competitions and human rights conference in Montreal. She suggested they may have been denied entry based on sexual orientation, and is demanding Citizenship and Immigration Minister Monte Solberg explain.

"I would like to be generous and say there may be another common denominator, but I don't see it," Folco said.

The former Liberal government invested about $2 million to help host the event, but Folco fears the participants are not welcome to the Conservative government.

Solberg's spokesman Lesley Harmer insisted there is no discrimination based on sexual orientation or race.

There has been an explanation given to some of the applicants, but it is rather lame. "Noel St. Pierre, an immigration lawyer in Montreal, told CBC that several of those rejected entry into Canada were told it was because they have criminal records. Eight months??? And the official line is that they are "still in the review process". I'd love to see what sort of excuse they can dredge up for that.

The true reason why the gay athletes were denied entry is because they are a health hazard to the country. Sure they could test them for AIDS, syphilis, gonnorhea, and other STDs (mainly AIDS of course) before letting them cross the border, but that would be time consuming and expensive. Also, there is an incubation period for AIDS where a test might not detect it.

Think about it this way- if there are ten athletes and three of them have AIDS, they will each probably bork at least two or three Canadian gays while they are visiting. That means AT LEAST six additional cases of AIDS. Then those six people bork their friends, and the virus multiplies exponentially. We all know gays love sex and can't go for longer than a day without it and AIDS is very common in their community because of it, so that isn't an unreasonable fear for the border control officials.

I'm sorry but those are very sweeping statements you've made. Not all gay men like to have sex all the time and fuck random guys they meet. Plus in the gay games, from my knowledge they do test their atheletes for many things. Again I don't know if that's true, but it's reasonable to assume that many of the atheletes in the gay games are healthy and thus able to compete.

One more thing, if Canada does test imcoming people coming into their country for STDs and all that, would'nt it make sense for them to do that for other people? Gay people are'nt the only ones that can get the HIV virus in this world. THere are millions of people with the virus, and gays make a percentage of that number.

So, since the games are, in fact, open to all, and testing for STD's is "time consuming and expensive", you are proposing that that the government test for 'gayness'? WTF? Health hazard? Canada is totally STD free? Since when?
