Default 'Robin Hood Tax' campaign's hilarious new ad with Bill Nighy

A coalition of British organizations calling itself the Robin Hood Tax campaign is proposing a new tax on banks to fund global anti-poverty and anti-climate change initiatives. The idea is to skim about 0.05% off of all speculative banking transactions, which proponents say would raise hundreds of billions of dollars each year and forge "a new deal between banks and society":
"It sounds complicated, but actually it isn't. A tiny tax on bankers has the power to raise hundreds of billions every year - giving a vital boost to the NHS, our schools, and the fight against child poverty - as well as tackling poverty and climate change around the world."
In an ad for the campaign, British actor Bill Nighy, who will star in the next installment of the Harry Potter films, plays a haughty banker who's forced to admit the tax would barely phase the finance industry.

Any mainstream politician that back this is undoubtedly straight in for re-election!

It doesn't matter the economics of this, it would really appease the people!
(and I'd vote for it too - along with a tax on the multi-billion pound profits made by the utility companies & grocery stores!)

I wish they would do something like this in the US,but last time I looked, pigs weren't flying through the air like superman. It would never happen here. Never.

Would this mean that I'd have to pay taxes for transactions and interest rates would be raised?

Hell yes! Love all of it. Love Bill Nighy, love the Robin Hood angle, love funding schools and anti-poverty.

The article says it would tax speculative transactions, so it doesn't sound like it would add to your credit card rate--not that they won't make up an excuse to do that anyway. Even if the rate was applied to all transactions, 0.05% (or 0.005) it would be a small price to pay if the massive collective funds went to genuine programs.
