im against it. also sometimes some very SMALL tweaks like a tiny tiny nose job doesnt really bother me. my problems are really with implants of all sorts, and the fact that we are creating this superficial, plastic society that values huge fake tits and tiny baby noses over brains and kindness. plasic surgery is almost EXPECTED now! ive heard people say 'her nose is huge why hasnt she got a nose job yet?" um- because she understands that beauty comes from within and wasting 10,000 bucks on a nose is a waste of money? but yeah my real problem is with breast implants simply because they NEVER look or feel real and because they are all you see in the media this is causing the younger generations of men to prefer fake over real, or think real boobs are ugly. thats fucked up.

there are deeper issues to plastic surgery than just 'oh well it makes them feel better so go for it!', i suggest some of you guys think about the negative impact it is having on our society,

I agree with you on that Melz. I stopped buying Victoria's Secret for this reason. I want bras that can really make my natural boobs look good but almost every VS model is sporting humongous implants that it makes me think it is not their products that are good or make you look good but the models wearing them. I figured that (though I'm 36C) my boobs won't look all perky and protruding wearing VS bras. It's kinda like false advertising or a fraud to make consumers think they can achieve something with their products but in reality they can't unless they also had the $$$ to buy fake boobies.

I'm not against reconstructive surgeries and alike but I also value natural beauty and accepting what you've been given biologically.
To me it's kinda like diamond (whether rough or polished) vs. zirconia, photoshopped vs. candid etc.
However, I don't and will not hate ppl just because they had PS. We say it's what's inside that counts, so whether you had PS or not, it all depends on your personality that ppl like you or dislike you for.

I like the TV show Skin Deep because it's very realistic.

There was a woman who wanted to become a model, and she thought she needed a nosejob. She talked about how it would garuntee her a job as model. She got an interview, and....rejected!...I hope it put things into perspective for her.

oh yes i wanted to clarify i am not against PS for reconstructive purposes or to correct something very unnatural like when very large people lose a lot of weight and have hanging skin, or someone who breaks their nose badly. also not against breast reductions as 99% of the time they are because the person has a problem with their breasts. its fixing things that are normal, just different (like a nose with a slight bump, or small breasts) that im against.

To start, I don't lump breast reduction and reconstructive surgeries in with all the other forms of plastic surgery. Just my take on them.

That said, I am against plastic surgery. It furthers the acceptance of vanity as a major priority in society. I hope this doesn't sound too harsh but to be perfectly honest I can't help but feel just a little bit of revolt towards anyone I know to have it. It does lower my opinion of them. It crosses the border of shallow and into just plain excess.

About 30 years ago if you wanted to have cosmetic surgery you would have been referred to a psychiatrist (this is not bullshit, it's absolutely true) and assessed as to your state of mind and self esteem.
These days it's almost a free for all.
While I don't have a problem with it in general I think it's sad that young people are getting unneccesary surgery for the wrong reasons.

You're right, Tiki, i have C cup breasts, but i know the feeling of inadequacy (they werent always this size, and i sometimes feel it now even though my size is quite big enough considering i am 4'11), but the point im trying to make is that its wrong to be made to feel like your breasts are too small, and i want to FIGHT that mindset rather than condone it by women getting breast implants. if women with small or even medium sized breasts keep getting implants then the pressure on small breasted women will get worse and worse, and i also believe there is a huge amount of pressure to have 'fake-looking' boobs over natural.

anyway what im basically trying to say is i wish we as a society would fix that entire mindset rather than all conforming to it.

if you're happy with your breast implants then i am happy for you. i just wish you didnt feel like you needed something foreign in your body that can be dangerous all to conform to a pressure we have put on us by society (which is dumb anyway because about half the men prefer smaller boobies!!)

I agree, tiki. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but who are we to say if a surgery is necessary for someone or not? You may think my boobs, nose, butt looks fine, but it's not about what YOU think. I live in my body. I've always had small boobies, and honestly, I was always fine with them. I loved that they were perky and never got in the way. After I had kids, they were small and saggy. I looked like a shriveled up granny in a bathing suit and tank tops. I'm too young to look like that! I have no desire to look like a porn star or even draw attention to myself, but I do want to wear what I want without being self conscious. So I recently got some modest implants and now I can wear what I want with confidence. A couple years ago I got the bump taken off my nose because, to me, my profile looked like a witch. Now I no longer obsess about my nose. If people want to believe I'm excessively shallow and think less of me, that's fine. I'm glad they are secure enough in their own bodies to not want to change anything. Ten years ago I would've never dreamed of getting any plastic surgery because it seemed so extreme and scary. Over the years, my opinion has changed. I'm not on a quest for perfection, just improvement, inside AND outside.

^^^^You girls must have nice sized natural breasts. Try being FLAT CHESTED and teased when all your friends developed BOOBS and you did'nt! UGGGG it was awful!
Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, eh? Try being the first one in your class to develop boobs - way before everybody else did, way too large ones that felt like huge lumps of alien fat on your chest, constantly getting in your way, constantly getting groped - entirely against your will, and in spite of trying to physically defend yourself - by all the guys for two or three years on end, having everybody staring at your chest, commenting, and so on...

Fifteen years ago, I'd have have traded almost anything for smaller boobs.
Now, I've learned to live with them; they're part of me, they don't feel alien anymore, they're even rather pretty, as big boobs go - but God, how I hated them!

I'll never be able to understand why anybody would actually want D-cups, though.

same here.
i had a breast reduction. luckily i didn't develop large breasts before all the other girls, they developped normally then all of a sudden grew larger. they weren't even that big, but my insurance company was generous and my parents supported my decision and i had a reduction when i was 18. best thing i ever did. those things are a pain in the ass, i'm more than happy with my Bs, i can lie on my stomach, exercise is much more easy and comfortable, i feel more lithe and not like i have two lumps in the way. to me it's so much more than just a cosmetic procedure. it's also pretty major surgery that can leave quite a bit of scarring. i'm lucky my scars are faded and the colour of my skin and you have to strain to see them, but even the girls i know who had a reduction and have more scarring, don't regret it for a second.

I'm with tiki and tictac on this one. I dont think PS is always about what other people think of you, its about what YOU think of yourself. What's wrong with making what you feel is an improvement? I think as long as your self-worth isnt based completely on your looks, then PS is fine. And isnt it better to look in the mirror and say "wow my nose looks nice" rather than "gee i wish it were smaller/bigger whatever."

Girls and very few guys did PS when I was around 17 to correct some hideous noses. I didn't blame them at all with the exception of my friend who was beautifully exotic with her slightly large nose and just an average beauty after her "gift". I'm all for PS until it looks too fake.
People that go from flat to huge boobs. People that are elderly trying to look 20's. People with average lips trying to look like blow up dolls....All very SCARY! If it's scary to the public at large, it's not a good thing!

I think that's the key. You *can* get plastic surgery and not look like a freak. You can get plastic surgery and just look refreshed.

I dont think there's anything wrong with it. But it is RIDICULOUS when already near perfect people go and fix something that is not a problem to begin with.

I do have a problem with celebrities who don't admit to it. Just say, "YES, I HAD FUCKING SURGERY!"
