I LOVE Redford as an actor. In his prime he was very
attractive, though never classically handsome.
He had the "it" factor: great looks, nice physical
shape, good hair, talent, integrity and he chose
great projects. Politically I often agree with him, too.
But, he aged badly. I remember I could already see
in his prime, that he had skin that would age
horribly, but I could never have foreseen that he
would end up looking like this!
Granted, the man is 71 (or 70) but yikes, time has
not been kind to dear Bob. Nor has the plastic
surgeon (rather butcher) who botched his eyelid
correction.
What makes it worse for me, is that Bob seems to
have a hard time aging gracefully. His greying hair
dyed an alarming shade of orange is proof of that.
Gosh, makes one wish one could turn back the
hands of time.
PS: this is not a post against aging (hey, I'm getting
on in years myself!) nor a statement that old is ugly
or that everyone over 21 should stop the hands of
time through artificial means such as PS. It's just an
observation that some of the prettiest faces of the
past are not blessed in the aging department.
PS2: And when the heck did Bob shrink to the size of
that big nosed midget Cruise?

He was always that small. When I still lived in L.A. and was waiting to get in to a taping that a friend of mine had been cast in (a Dear John segment - Judd Hirsch show), I was standing in front of a cameraman and his wife. He said they had to stand Redford on a stool while filming Bridges of Madison County and other films. He's very short.

I thought Clint Eastwood was in Bridges with Meryl Streep?
Clint used to be very tall. In his Magnum Force Days he was
several inches over 6 ft.

Ugh, my bad. It was some other movie, obviously. I don't understand how they do that, put these short guys on stools, but they do. He was quite matter-of-fact about it, and said they do it for a lot of major stars who are short. His various bios say 5"9' or 5"10' - he's much shorter than that.
Wasn't there a thread on here a while back about major A-list stars through the years who were super-short?

the hair is indeed disturbing. he'd look better if he just went gray, there wouldn't be such a huge contrast between the bright red hair and the wrinkly face.
and the chicklet veneers make him look like a kennedy.

I look at this way. All the greats are pushing 70 or over or they're dead. They've nipped and tucked, some sucessfully (Paul), some not. They were all incredibly handsome, elegant, attractive, dynamic on the screen and became legends. Some are lucky enough to have a full head of hair. When I watch their films or see them on The Actors Studio show, I don't see the ps or the wrinkles. I see the man, the legend. You say the words Robert Redford and this specific picture pops into my head. That's all I see.

All I see is a red cross, GF.
But I'm guessing the picture that pops up in your head
looks something like this:

Are you serious? Paul had something done, too? When and what?
The best thing about Redford now are his hair (minus the dyejob) and
his physical fitness. Warren's hair is seriously receding, but at least
- when he dyes it - he chooses a color closer to his natural shade.
Plus Warren has gotten heavier over the years and a bit out of shape.
Bob never lost his figure (except a few inches in height it seems).
His chicklets do look ridiculous now, though.
Warren - this year - said he was glad he still has his own teeth,
that he was thankful to be so genetically blessed in that department.
I agree!

I'm so with you Chalet. I love that pic, but these always pop into my head. I'd still put these pictures up against many Hollywood hearthrobs of today!

My only disappointment with Redford is that he went the PS route at all. He's so anti-establishment and everyone knew of his disdain for Hollywood's obsession with going under the knife. He was always one of the harshest critics of it! So why did he do it?

My guess is medical reasons. I suspect the kind of overhanging
eyelids that cause infections. I know several, older, people who
have/had that and it causes frequent infections of the eyes
and eyelids themselves.
Bob pre PS:

He looks okay for a 70 year old IMO. At least he's no hideously disfigured like Burt Reynolds.

the eyelid surgery and chiclets wouldn't bug me so much if he would just stop it with the ronald mcdonald/Carrot Top coloured mop.

Of course you picked right, HWBL. My pic was closest to the last of your 3.
Mama Mia. The Way We Were. Ya think it was normal for a 10 year old to have such a devastating crush?

Smart, sexy, educated, innovative, rugged, handsome, attractive, ... have any of you seen the other 70 year olds out there.
this man still has it, i have no other/older/dated picture of who he used to be... to me he is still smart, sexy, etc.
Ask me for a cup of coffee, or anything else, please!!
