All the pics are taken from the same film. Maybe he just looked like he has funky ears for the movie. No pics between 92-99? I find this odd.

He should of kept the old ears then I could of called him Dumbo (the elephant with big ears) instead of dum dum!
That was really nasty. Sorry for insulting the elephant. 
It looks to me like he tried to have the marks removed but sometimes in bad lighting you can still see where they have been.
I will give him that he has smouldering eyes when he isn't trying too hard to look sexy.
