Default Rise of the pillow face

The new look which gives away celebs who have had plastic surgery to try and recapture their youth

Wrinkle-free: Linda Evans, pictured yesterday, appears to be suffering from the 'pillow face' syndrome as a result of non-invasive surgical procedures

Linda Evans may have been crowned queen of Hell's Kitchen, but her strangely puffed-out cheeks have drawn more comment than any of her culinary skills.
The actress, who is now 66 and barely recognisable as the beautiful woman who played Krystle Carrington in Dynasty, is possibly the most grotesque example of the new A-list phenomenon: the 'pillow face'.
Evans bears the giveaway plumped-out cheeks that are the hallmark of the look, made popular by the increasing trend for non-invasive cosmetic surgery and fat implants.
And she joins Madonna and Kylie Minogue as the most obvious examples of stars whose new, youthful glow seems to suggest they may have had fat implants in their cheeks, causing the pillow face effect.

Increasing numbers of celebrities are requesting to have the new sought-after plumped-up look, as opposed to the pinched back 'wind tunnel' results of a face-lift or the 'frozen' Botox look.
Most women are aware that as they age, they must choose between retaining a youthful face - and losing their figure - or maintaining a slim body but appearing hollow-cheeked and gaunt.
Botox, the previous go-to treatment used by stars to turn back time, ensured they could literally freeze the ageing process - but Botox does nothing to counter the effects of volume loss, which occurs at around 38.
The new process of filling out the cheeks to make them look prominent is an effort to recreate the plumpness of youth that younger stars like Billie Piper still have naturally.

Singer Kylie, 40, who recently admitted to surgically 'having tried it all' appears to be suffering from the same overly chubby-cheeked look as Linda.

Winning the ageing game: Since turning 50, Madonna has mysteriously turned back the clock, left, boasting cheeks that are plump and rounded, defying nature which says women's cheeks begin to sink at 38, say our surgeons. Right, Kylie Minogue, left, has previously confessed to 'having it all done'

On the other hand, actress Nicole Kidman, 40, insists she has never had anything done, but judging by her youthful looks and plump cheeks, she may be another Hollywood A-lister who has enlisted the help of the needle.
The mother of one says: 'To be honest, I am completely natural. I have nothing in my face or anything. I wear sunscreen, and I don't smoke. I take care of myself. And I'm very proud to say that.'
But plastic surgeon Alex Karidis of The Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, claims she may actually have had work done.
He said: 'Nicole may claim she hasn't had anything done, but so does Michael Jackson.
'A lot of people are injecting their faces to counter the deflating effect of ageing.'

Plump: Nicole Kidman denies any surgery, but her skin looks unusually taut and line-free and her lips seem plumper than before. 'Nicole may claim she hasn't had anything done, but so does Michael Jackson,' said plastic surgeon Alex Karidis. Right, 43-year-old actress Liz Hurley also denies having any surgical procedures

'Especially those that like to keep trim as their facial fat diminishes. But the question is where do you draw the line?
'A patient wants more and more and ends up with a fat face.'
Facial fat loss is common as natural collagen production starts to decline, but with a punishing diet and gruelling exercise regime, the face quickly gives away the signs of age.

Cheeky: Actress Leslie Ash, left, and designer Donatella Versace appear to have indulged in a little too much cosmetic work

The needle is a sure-fire way of countering the signs - and also allows celebrities to honestly claim they have not undergone the knife.
But Mr Karidis also warns against the dangers of having fillers put in at an older age.
He said: 'The thing that people don't realise is that you can't put volume back and think that everything will look the same as it did ten years ago.
'The skin's elasticity isn't the same and it won't hold fat in the same way.
'Any old monkey can stuff a cheek but not everyone has the 3D concept and ability to deliver natural results.

Plastic fantastic: Left, 64-year old Priscilla Presley's unnaturally plump cheeks and jawline point to plumping injections. The actress admitted in 2003 to seeing an unlicensed cosmetic surgeon who injected her with industrial grade silicone used to lubricate car parts. Right, actress Amanda Holden has admitted to Botox

Madonna, who seems to have rolled back the years since reaching 50, also claims she hasn't had surgery but judging by recent photographs, the Material Girl appears to have defied gravity.
Mr Karidis says: Madonna may have had something put into her cheeks, she looks more plumped-up than her younger sister.
Natural beauty: Billie Piper has the full face that many of her older counterparts wish to achieve

'The tell-tale sign of fillers is a disproportionate mouth area, similar to what you see with Donatella Versace or Leslie Ash.
'Patients focus on the cheek area and get carried away.'
Even celebrities who have access to the funds and contacts to hire the best names in the business will sometimes put pressure on surgeons to up the dose.
In the U.S., fillers that are popular in the U.K have not yet been licensed and so the only way to achieve the plumped-up look is by injecting fat into cheeks.
According to consultant plastic surgeon and secretary of the British Association of aesthetic plastic surgery Mr Rajiv Grover, excess fat is often used, resulting in a 'pillow-face' look
Mr Grover said: 'Fat is unpredictable and only 40 to 70 per cent will survive in the face, so patients often have to have extra injected into the cheek to ensure it will remain.'
'When it comes to Hollywood, with hectic schedules and high definition photography celebrities could be putting pressure on their doctors to administer larger quantities of fat, and coupled with swelling in the first month, an overstuffed look can occur.'

Good article, points out that celebrities can skirt the PS issue by claiming not to have anything done, when they mean nothing as in invasive surgical procedures, but then they go and have something stupid done like fill their cheeks with butt fat.

    Idiots.

It's not so much the cheeks that need it, as directly under the cheeks.. that's the part that's hollow

Most of these women would look a lot better if they just left their faces alone and took care of themselves.

Guess they had to show someone with natural youthful beauty in case we forgot what it actually looked like.

That is natural youthful beauty? To me she looks fake. Her mouth scares me. If she's all natural, I humbly apologize, but that is not the look I think of when I hear 'youthful beauty.'

And that Leslie Ash lady (never heard of her)? Her smile will haunt my dreams....yikes!

I think they meant the naturally plump lips and face as being youthful beauty that the aging dollybirds are trying to emulate.

Agree though. There are lots more beautiful young stars around than Piper.

With all the money Priscella Presley has she resorted to an unlicensed doctor, "Industrial grade silicone used to lubricate car parts".

    What a cheap bitch.

If they'd only listen to us!

Just do the neck/jawline and forget the rest. Don't touch the eyes, leave the mouth alone and don't pump up the cheek volume. And those eyebrow lifts are really getting out of control.

    Gross, gross and more gross.
Madonna's face is starting to remind me of a radish. Weird.

Nicole Kidman is just... ick. Those lips scare the shit out of me.

Priscilla Presley is a horror movie star in the making.

Sadly, Billie Piper is just as ugly and hasn't been touched by the scalpel. Yet.

When did Priscilla Presley become the even draggier version of her fugly daughter?

A plumper faced version of Madonna is INFINITELY better than veiny 'roid rage Madge. But what is wrong with these people?
