Some of the more well known films: Stand up and Cheer, Bright Eyes, Dimples, Curly Top, Heidi, The Little Princess, Little Miss Broadway, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Wee Willie Winkie, Poor Little Rich Girl, The Little Colonel, Baby Take a Bow, Little Miss Marker, plus tons more before fame (baby burlesque series) and after teen years hit (The Blue Bird, Miss Annie Rooney, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer). It is true that she 1) saved Twentieth Century Fox single handedly from ruin by getting them out of the red, and 2) she was rudely dumped by them after she lost her little girl appeal. Hollywood - eats you up and spits you out.

Funny thing is that Hollywood did the same thing to another "child" star if you will years earlier - Mary Pickford. Shirley in fact starred in remakes of Pickfords movies (Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm for instance) and just like Shirley, when Mary got too old to pull off the "little girl" roles like the audiences wanted, she was dumped.

Shirley Temple once ran for United States Senate and lost but then was appointed to her United Nations positions. She also suffered from breast cancer in the 60's and was one of the first celebs to publicly admit to the mastectomy that followed as a way to rid of it.

I love the photo's I've seen of her at the SAG awards peering and poking at the award the way a child would. Glad to see that she hasn't lost that little bit of fun innocence of a child. I think the man who escorted her on the red carpet was her son as he looked a bit like her and her husband, but I'm uncertain. She's been married twice. Once when she was 16 or 17, (had a daughter from that marriage) and then again in the 50's and had a couple kids with husband two.

The awful truth about Shirley's career is that hardly one dime of her earnings was saved for her future. I think when she turned 18, there was barely any money saved, and all she received were the rights to the "doll house" that resided in the back yard of her parents house in Brentwood. (which had been purchased with her film earnings). The "doll house" was in fact a full sized house that she and her first husband actually moved into when they married. He was pretty much the Kevin Federline of his day - got into acting and movies because he was "Shirley Temple's Husband" and then got cocky and drank a lot - cheated on her etc. John Agar was his name I think.

Thanks. Shelley Fabre has been very ill for many years now. I think she almost died of a kidney disease. I'm very happy to see she's out and having a good time. She's had that do for a few years now. I read that she wanted to do something out of the mainstream of things. Her face looks different in that photo....same hair dif face.

Why a woman of Shelly's age would do her hair like that - I dunno - but her face still looks pretty much like when she was on the TV show "Coach".

Here - in case anyone has any interest: these are pics that were in Shirley's autobiography. She was quite a cute little number as a teenager/young adult as well. http://www.shirleytemple.com/shirleyPhotos.html

I always liked her, until she came to my office building to serve on jury duty. She was very cold to everybody and snuck out for a ciggie constantly. Really mean looks to everybody.

Yes indeed she did. It was like she was daring somebody to say something to her so she could cuss you out. And I used to love her movies when I was young, I still remember crying over Sara Crewe!

That's terrible! But then again, who the hell likes to hafta serve on jury duty? Still, she could've been civil!
The first step to acquiring wisdom is to admit that you really know nothing.
