I think she wanted it that way. She wanted to become pregnant and needed a sperm donor. Heidi is too calculating to be that naive. Why she picked Briatore of all people is beyond me, but apparently many very hot women find him attractive.
She and Flavio both claim that she hasn't gotten any money from him. I reckon Heidi just wanted to have a rich guy as a father just in case something goes wrong with her career. But since she's just doing fine, the case hasn't gone to court.
