Re: Joan Jett and Jenna Jameson at the Playboy Annual Superbowl Party 2/5
ok, I'm not even 30 yet, and I feel officially old.
Joan Jett was the baddest chick. she loved rock n roll, and she didn't give a damn about her bad reputation. She was the first and ultimate rocker chick.
Tiara, I know you are young and beeyootiful, but WHERE is your music history?! 1982 is only 24 years ago! I know music back to the 40's! how come people aren't putting kids on to old music anymore?! I'm not clowning you, I'm wondering how this could be...perhaps your parents listened to different music than rock. maybe they listened to funk or classical or pop.
I think the issue is that everything is sampled and remixed to death, so you don't know the real music and musicians anymore...Britney destroyed that song, and made it wack. End of Rant.

I guess I'm just not interested in old music, I listen to what I like which is mainly modern stuff. And to be honest, even if I do like an old song, I'll listen to it but it doesn't necessarily mean I MUST know who sang it and quite frankly I couldn't care less!
The only old singers/groups I know of are ones that my Mum and Dad listened to when I was younger, even my mum isn't too familiar with Joan Jett (I spoke to her at lunch!) she has heard of her but only for that one song and she doesn't know anything else about her and my mums 50. I guess she's just more popular in the US

Oh hell... I am 35 and know who she is ( of course) and don't think she's all that.
I am willing to bet that not very many people could name more than ONE song from her and if they could, "I love rock and rock" would be that one song.

I wrote another one - I don't give a damn about your bad reputation.
I mean, I don't think a lot of people are all that, but that doens't mean I don't know who they are, or their influence. I think knowing Joan Jett is important because EVERY female rocker bites off her, you know?

I'm gonna add some of my other faves
Hate Myself For Loving You
Light of Day (She was in a movie with Michael J. Fox and this was the theme song)
Gotcha (she did another theme song for a movie titled the same)
She's done quite a few movie soundtracks.
Cherry Bomb (this was originally from Runnaways I think but she did a modern day punk version with L7)
Newer songs I like of hers
Ashes in the Wind
Backlash
Don't Surrender

Glamazon, I'm right there with you. I'm still 26 but I'm a rocker chic and I like all kinds of rock music esp the 80's bands.

Damn, you caught me Tiara!!
Seriously, though, my older sister had her playing constantly and those are just some that stuck with me. I asked my hubby how it is you can remember songs for years and years, but can't remember to pick up tp at the store!!
I think it's funny that Jenna Jameson is the "famous sexy one" and we have all posted about Joan Jett!!! No one gives a shit about her!!

Re: Joan Jett and Jenna Jameson at the Playboy Annual Superbowl Party 2/5
I'm thinking Joan Jett is simply not that well known in the UK? Could that not be a reasonable explanation without bashing everyones music knowledge?

Re: Joan Jett and Jenna Jameson at the Playboy Annual Superbowl Party 2/5
She's done collaboration with Sex Pistols (UK band yes?) etc.
Runaways (the all girl band where she started out, as Gator mentioned) was pretty big in Japan in the 70's so I'd imagine she was internationally famous?
Ppl have differnt taste in music so if I was asked about the history of hip hop or something I'm sure I wouldn't know much about it...
I like rock, though I'm certainly no expert, I know the major influential bands from the 70-90's.

I just think she has a more iconic status in the US. Hey maybe I'll be proved wrong (I can take it! )

Re: Joan Jett and Jenna Jameson at the Playboy Annual Superbowl Party 2/5
I'm not bashing people here! sheesh!
I'm just saying that someone who was so influential on female rockers worldwide would or should be more widely recognized other than that chick next to jenna jameson...and speaking fo Jenna, her act is old and tired. Anyone one of us here could get some implants, fuck a bunch of dudes for video, and get paid for it. Let's start the Gossip Rocks porn collection now! who's first to jenna-fy themselves?
