First-hand scoop: YES! I live in LA, and for the stunts, they shut down an entire freeway to film the stunts. I drove by it today going the opposite direction. IT WAS INSANE.
I heard on the news that they were filming and the freeway would be closed, thats the only way I knew this wasnt real. Because it looked like the most huge heinous disaster. It was... nuts.
They had a real-deal huge freeway sign fall on 3 cop cars and burn up and there were seriously no less then 35 cop cars and more emergency workers. I have never seen anything like it. It was NUTS.
Bear in mind, this is a HUGE 6-lane freeway that they shut down for filming.
