I reckon thats just the high-waisted trousers/nappy effect. They even made Mischa Barton look fat. I love the top half, bottom half not so much but I always think she's gorgeous anyway,

My God Fab! They're called fans. What would any self-respecting celeb be with out them? You should see me at the Jennifer Aniston fan board. I'm absolutely OCD!
But I do think that 1940's style of palazzo pant can make a person look heavier. You have to be tall to really pull them off. Katharine Hepburn and Jean Harlow wore them well.
