what is fistula?

^^Fistulas are holes that develop between the vaginal and rectal area, or the vaginal and bladder area as a result of a prolonged and difficult childbirth. This problem is prevalent in a lot of third world countries where adequate medical care is not available. The fistulas can cause bladder and bowel incontinence; th women in these third world countries who have this problem are often shunned by their families, and made to live alone without any help because of the incontinence and smell.

Its the worst kind of childbirth - kindda gross.
Fistula is when blood supply to the tissues of the vagina and the bladder (and/or rectum) is cut off during labor. The tissues die and a hole forms through which urine and/or feces pass uncontrollably.
