Ok so I thought we had ironed out most of the turtle issues, they were behaving themselves beautifully. We ordered a bunch of stuff for their tank, basking platforms and such. We put them in about half an hour ago and since then the big turtle has done nothing but get underneath them and rub her shell back and forth on it...It's extremely odd. I'm trying to figure out if this is normal, but I can't find anything! Ack!!

    Maybe it's itchy?

Their tank looks a lot better now, these pics are a few weeks old. They've got more rocks and a backing thing and all sorts. Spoiled turtles!

Probably is. They grow new shell underneath in plates and lose the outer layer. It peels up around the edge of each section. Looks just like fingernail material.

I want turtles again! I love it when they sun themselves and stretch out their little legs like Superman flying.
As Canadian as possible under the circumstances

Thanks Twitchy I did lots of reading and it would appear she's peeling, I'm glad it's a normal turtley thing to do and not something I'm doing wrong. I'm so worried about taking care of them properly!

They are so cute when they sun themselves, they just look so contented. Phil and Kirstie were quite entertaining yesterday, they were both sunning themselves and Phil was on top of Kirstie, apparently they like stacking themselves, and they were watching Family Guy! Or at least that's how it looked lol, as soon as FG was finished, Phil plopped into the water and Kirstie did this huge yawn and did the same. So cute!

Marie, Kirstie is the bigger one, she dwarves poor wee Phil!
