I don't suppose there's any point reporting the asshole to the ASPCA or similar? Lord knows I'm not a petard but people like this make my blood boil. He had no business owning an animal in the first place. He's probably the type of moron who gets a "cute" puppy and then it grows up and he's not interested any more. If he's capable of abandoning the poor thing he was probably treating it very badly at home too. I have a view about people who keep large dogs in apartments anyway but that's another story...

Side note: if your parents are putting out rat poison in the yard I hope there aren't any small kids around who could find it?

I hope you find her ASAP and get her the medical treatment she needs. How can someone just dump an animal? People do it every day and it breaks my heart. All she wants is to be somebody's pet, to be loved. Animals give so much back in return.

Well this was just a terribly sad read...

I would never question taking a dog that wasn't mine to the vet. It ate rat poison on my property while I was responsible for its care - I would be at the vets as soon as I could. I wouldn't even imagine giving the dog back either. Rat poison is an awful way to die.... awful, just extremely awful and painful.

I hope somebody has taken the dog in and it has received the appropriate care. Failing that, I hope it had a peaceful death.

Some people shouldn't care for, or have pets. Period.

^ For what it's worth, Allie explained that she didn't know until after the dog got sick that there was rat poison. She simply thought the dog killed the rat. I really hope she'll be able to find it or someone will rescue the poor thing. Many of my animals had been rescues so I know that even though there are a lot of shitty people in the world who would abandon their animals, there are also people who are willing to help.

I wasn't able to find her. The shelters around say they don't have a dog with her description. I hope that someone found her, and is taking good care of her now.

I feel sooooo bad! The guy never even told me the dog was sick, I asked about her a few days later, and that's when I found out she was not doing well. I had someone that wanted to keep her, and this asshole just dumps her off like nothing. I hope to god that she is doing better, and safe and sound with a good home with kids. She was really good with kids, and honestly the sweetest dog I've been around in a long time. When I had her, she never barked, didn't pee or poop in the house, and she would lay on my bed with me to go to sleep at night.

Jesus Christ this is depressing. How people can be so cruel to an innocent, defenseless animal.....
Santa is an elitist mother fucker -- giving expensive shit to rich kids and nothing to poor kids.

Something doesn't add up here. If the dog became ill in your care surely it would have been dead by October 25th. Poisoning is a downward slope. Either the dog became ill through the fault of the owner after he left your care and he is trying to blame you..leaving you to pay the vet bills.....or he just doesn't want the dog and has deliberately set the poor little tyke loose. Either way....the owner is scum of the Earth.

I'm really not sure what the hell happened to the poor dog. She was fine when I gave her back. Her nose was even wet again, when he let me borrow her, her nose was dry and peeling. He said she was due for shots soon, so I was also thinking parvo was a possible cause for her getting sick. As for him deliberately setting the dog loose, yeah there's no dobut it was because he didn't want the dog. He is the scum of the earth as far as I'm concerned.

She sounds like a really nice dog..... maybe somebody took her home from the park and is giving her the love and care she deserves. I sure hope so.

Just last week someone I know had to call the animal shelter on a poor pup that had been abandoned. The owners had apparently gone out of town and left the poor baby tied to a chain with NO shelter, food or water. My friend noticed the dog out there for a couple of days before realizing what was going on, and took him some food and water, and provided a large crate for him to climb into. It was a very young dog, maybe half grown, and was so unsocialized (or possibly abused) it would cower when you walked up to it, but still very sweet. The collar had begun to grow into his neck.

    How can people do this?

Crappy pet owners really piss me off!!
