Aw, thanks HWBL! I had a big dog before these buggers and I swear he had less attitude! Sally loves her big dog friends too. She's totally unaffected by her size. She has NO clue she's a peanut. Jersey, on the other hand, acts like any dog that comes within five feet of her is trying to kill her.

Your dog is beautiful! She looks so happy and friendly I just want to give her a cookie. My neighborhood babysitter growing up had a dog that looked almost exactly like yours named Patches. She used to watch a ton of kids and they were all so loud so I would lay on the floor with my ear pressed to the wood and listen to the apartment below, pretending I was somewhere else. Patches always came and cuddled with me and never bothered with the other kids. I loved that dog. I just remember him being so mellow. Nothing like mine!

Thanks, Witchywoman! The acupuncture is actually to treat her IVDD (disc disease), but I've read a few things that say it can help with the epilepsy. In fact, a few of the meds for her IVDD double as anti-seizure drugs. So she's kinda unwittingly being treated for the epilepsy too, though only temporarily. The vet doesn't want her on anything permanent because her seizures are so infrequent. The acupuncture is just restoring nerve function to her back and legs. It's a lifesaver, though! When she started she couldn't move at all, she couldn't even go to bathroom on her own, and now she's walking and running like a champ without assistance!

We have an OLD Jack Russell Terrier that is 17 1/2. We are at the stage of deciding whether to put her down or not. This is the oldest dog I have ever had,...and one of the hardest things to decide.

How is she doing health wise? Does she still seem to enjoy her life?

Aw, Jade Star, that's a pretty old dog, you've done good. My vet always put it to me like this....with whatever measures you're doing to help her, is she having more bad days than good? If so, it's time. If not, keep on trucking. It's all about quality of life. I'm crying right now, sometimes it just hits you like a ton of bricks --- love is all we have in this world, and anything done out of selfless love is right.

I think she needs to be put down...but my family doesn't. I am just torn over it.

Well, my oldest daughter stopped by last night and saw her dog, Sugar, and realized it was time. So today we took Sugar in and put her to sleep. She was 17 years, 7 months and 2 days old. Broke my heart....but it was time. So glad she isn't in pain and suffering anymore.

Thank you. I know we did the right thing for her. I was just glad my daughter realized it, too. She had left for college and now is a nurse and on her own, so I think she was in denial awhile about her childhood pet left at home. My husband went with us, too. Hard day...she was a member of the family for so long.

I'm sorry, Jade. It sounds like it was the right time though. I hope you're doing okay.
